HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-1016 Document Submitted at Mtg b&A 01 1 14,44-11 4'le October 16, 2012 Dear Mayor Stromberg and City Councillors Chapman, Lemhouse, Morris, Silberger, Slattery and Voisin: I know that tonight's meeting with the Ashland Community Hospital Board of Directors is a chance for you to hear from them about the proposed merger with Dignity Health Systems. I hope you will ask them this question (and its follow up). Surely this special community and its people deserve a hearing on the issue of a slightly modified policy by Dignity Health. If the merger with ACH is a mutually beneficial move, of value to Dignity Health as well as to ACH, why was/is it not possible to push hard for Dignity Health to modify its policy (as a one-off modification)for ACH regarding Physician Assisted end of life options and provision of abortions? These are options that Oregonians have fought hard for. Did you fight hard for them, or will you? Did you just "take no as the answer"' or did you vigorously defend these legal rights? Is this still an option, to press for these two modifications to Dignity Health's Catholic Church dictated policy? Thank you, Keith S.
