WHEREAS, by act of Congress of the United States dated June 14 1777 the first

=yr1: WHEREAS, by act of Congress dated August 3, 1949, "National Flag Day" was
designated each year as June 14; and J
WHEREAS, the Congress has requested the President to issue annually a
proclamation designating the week in which June 14 occurs as National Flag Week; 1"

s >r, WHEREAS, Flag Day celebrates our nation's symbol of unity, a democracy in a _"-

republic, and stands for our country's devotion to freedom, to the rule of all, and to

;;{(( WHEREAS, the year 1997 commemorates the 52nd and 22nd year anniversaries ofd{lj ,

the ending of World War II and the Vietnam War; and
