This section of the plaza was a "no-parking" zone prior to the Plaza Beautification project and is the.best option from a safety aspect because it reduces vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian/cyclist conflicts in an area where there's already a lot to pay attention to. In the past this section within the plaza has been used as a temporary loading zone for delivery trucks and other plaza events, and this is expected to continue after the curb is painted yellow. Deliveries are necessary for business and community events, and restricting parking will preserve it for such uses. ~es a ~ ~PP~ It has been a long grueling budget season and tonight it ends, probably with a decision that I will disagree with. POW--, Ordinarily, my philosophy is to respect the vote and move on. This case is different. A radical change in Parks funding is being proposed without answers to the question of why the change is necessary. A change Martha Bennett, Brian Almquist and Cathy Shaw, among a long list of mayors, City Councilors and City Administrators did not find necessary to make. The question of how the Parks Commission maintains its Charter prescribed independence without control of its budget likewise remains unanswered. And finally, no grand plan of where the City and Parks are going with these changes has been laid out. Hopefully, the ad Hoc Committee on Parks funding will provide some of the answers. Avoiding these questions potentially harms our credibility as public officials. Thus I look forward to all the cards being laid on the table, providing a transparent pubic forum for. understanding the necessity for these changes and how our Parks will be protected given these changes.
