AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1415, AS AMENDED,
ADOPTING A POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN FOR THE CITY
OF ASHLAND.

THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 1415 as amended is hereby amended
y~a-dUlng the following new classifications as set forth in
Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a part hereof:
Janitor
Maintenance/Warehouse Worker
Senior Program Director
Purchasing Agent/Cemetery Supervisor (Eff.. 7-1-85)
Assistant Planner (Eff. 7-1-85)
Staff Accountant/EDP (Eff: 7-1-85)

JANITOR
Characteristics
Under general supervision the employee is responsible
for keeping various City-owned buildings clean,
pleasant appearing and safe. This also includes
responsibilities for any areas outside buildings that
the City is responsible for, such as sidewalks, parking
lots, yards, landscaped areas, etc., as well as the
interior and exterior of the buildings. Does related
work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Sufficient education to insure the ability to read and
write; some experience in janitorial or building main-
tenance work is preferred.
MAINTENANCE WAREHOUSE WORKER
Characteristics
Under general supervision, the employee is responsible
for keeping City-owned properties in good, safe repair.
This includes performing tasks related to the operation
and maintenance of City-owned buildings, yards, sidewalks,
parking lots and landscaped areas.
Employee also performs materials handling tasks, such as
loading and unloading trucks, receiving clerk, warehouse
helper, inventory controller, materials dispatcher,
assisting purchasing agent and courier. Does related work
as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to: graduation from high school with experience
in carpentry, plumbing, floor maintenance, painting, or
similar work experience. Clerical ability to perform the
materials handling tasks indicated above.
ASHLAND SENIOR PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Characteristics
Under the general direction of the City Administrator, and
in cooperation with the Senior Program Board, this employee
administers the Senior Program of the City. Primary respon-
sibilities are the implementation of information and referral,
outreach, and transportation services, and to make arrangements
for recreational, cultural and educational programs for senior
citizens. Prepares annual budget and grant applications.
Maintains office records and prepares reports. Supervises paid
employees, workers from other agencies, and volunteers. Does
related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to: Graduation from high school and five years
experience in community service including one year working with
senior citizens. Appropriate college or university education
may be partial substitute for experience. Knowledge of budget-
ing and grant writing. Ability to work with volunteers and
citizen groups.
PURCHASING AGENT/CEMETERY SUPERVISOR
Characteristics
Under general supervision, the employee is responsible for
the acquisition of goods and services, and their proper
control. Also responsible for safety programs, maintenance
of buildings and grounds, supervision of the Cemetery
Department, including operation and maintenance of all
cemetery properties, accurate record-keeping, and organiza-
tion and supervision of personnel. Does related work as
required.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to: graduation from high school, three years of
related experience and one year of supervisory experience.
ASSISTANT PLANNER
Characteristics
Under the supervision of the Planning Director, this
employee performs basic planning and energy conservation
duties including: public assistance, current and long
range land use and energy planning, research, mapping and
drafting, preparing staff and special reports and docu-
ments, gives oral presentations and does other related
work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography, Sociology,
Public Administration, or other related field. Directly
related experience may substitute on a year-to-year basis.
The applicant must have: the ability to communicate
effectively in.written.and_oral form, the ability to work
effectively with the public, possession of or ability to
immediately obtain a valid Oregon Driver's License. Micro-
computer familiarity is preferred.
STAFF ACCOUNTANT/EDP
Characteristics
Under the direction of the Supervising Accountant, the
employee functions in a staff position in the City's
Finance Department. Work covers the accounting operations
of the City with emphasis on computers and their usage in
utility billings and accounting. Does related work as
required.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to: A Bachelor's degree with specialization in
accounting, or computer science with accounting classes.
Appropriate experience in a municipal or utility finance
office may substitute for college training, on a year to
year basis.
