PROCLAMATION • Hundreds of thousands of underage girls and boys living in the United States,
and vastly greater numbers abroad, suffer in silence under the intolerable yoke
of modern slavery.
° • In the first six months of 2013 alone, 140 calls and 23 cases of potential human

r trafficking were reported in Oregon.
• The defense of human rights is an essential part of our national and local
identity.
' • We recognize the people, organizations, and government entities that are
°working to combat child trafficking.
• The President of the United States has declared January each year as National
Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, so we also add our support

I to this important initiative.
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council and Mayor, on behalf of the citizens of go
° Ashland, hereby proclaim January 2015 as: n

and hereby urge all citizens to recognize the vital role they can play in ending
modern slavery and to observe this month with appropriate programs and
