"How are the Children?" This is a traditional Masai greeting that warriors would say to
each other no matter weather they were meeting on or off the battlefield. It has become
a way of defining their society. I will be requesting that in all actions taken by this
council and any other councils that all there meetings start with "How are the Children?"
how are the decisions being made today impact today's children and beyond.
Today I will ask that the council charge the newly formed Climate and Energy Action
Committee to start with immediate recommendations to start decreasing our
greenhouse emissions. IT IS ESSENTIAL to act immediately as a community and set
an example to our neighbors and other communities in the WgitV States. According to
Mary Woods, Environmental Law professor at University of„in Eugene we (as in the
human race) have less then 5 years to change the current'trajectory of global warming
that is sure to cause irreversible damage to human life on this planet.
I also ask that the council bring into the conversation the First Peoples of this
community. They lived on this land for many thousands of years in balance. Let us ask
them to assist us in restoring that balance.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Hering
