REUSE OF DOCUMENTS: CH2MHILLOOGUMEANDISNOTO Mayor Stromberg & City Council City of Ashland 20 East Main Street, Ashland OR 97520 January 3, 2016 Mayor Stromberg and Council This letter is written in support of Mr. Chmelir's request for a fire line connection at the proposed Alzheimer's Facility. I started and owned Lithia Springs Resort next door to the proposed care facility for over 20 years. Next to providing a great experience for our guests, water was our biggest concern. We had a well water system at the resort, but because of minerals in the water we use quite a bit of energy every year to run a treatment system to make the water pleasant tasting. Constant pumping, aeration and ozination systems all require lots of electricity and are a source of constant maintenance problems. I am no longer involved with the Resort, or with Mr. Chmelir's Alzheimer's Project. But I was involved when we worked with the city on the location for the pump station. Of course we cooperated in every way possible. It seems pretty shabby treatment to work so hard to deny this simple request, given all that cooperation to the City's benefit. I recently had open heart surgery and am unable to attend the hearing on this matter. But if I could I would strongly advocate in favor approval of Mr. Chmelir's request. Sincerely, Duane Smith Your consultant is here tonight - please ask him these questions: 1. If the Fire Line only operates during a fire, is it likely that connecting the fire sprinkler system to the existing fire line will reduce the capacity of the TAP suction line in any measurable way? 2. Given the same scenario, is it likely that connecting a distribution fire line to the existing "TEE" would reduce the capacity of the TAP pressure line enough to imperil its function?
