ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1102, WHICH PERTAINED
TO SOLICITORS, CANVASSERS AND PEDDLERS, TO PROHIBIT
PEDDLING ON PUBLIC STREETS, INCREASING THE APPLICATION
FEE, AND INCREASING THE PENALTY.
THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF ASHLAND DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The last paragraph of Section 3 of Ashland
Ordinance No. 1102 is hereby amended to read as follows:
"At the time of filing the application a fee of
$7.50 shall be paid to the City Recorder to
cover the cost of investigation of the facts
stated therein."
SECTION 2. Section 11 of Ashland Ordinance No. 1102 is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"Penalty. Any person violating any of the provisions
of- this Ordinance, Ordinance No. 1102, shall, upon
conviction thereof, be punished by a fine not to
exceed $300.00 or by imprisonment not to exceed
60 days or by both such fine and imprisonment."
SECTION 3. Ordinance No. 1102 is hereby amended to contain
a new section which shall read as follows:
"SECTION 15. Prohibition of Peddling on Public
Streets and in Public Places. It shall be unlawful
for any person to peddle or attempt to peddle as
that term is defined in Section 2(b) hereof, on any
public sidewalk, street or in any other public place
in any commercial zone of the City of Ashland.
However, the Ashland City Council may, at its
discretion, grant permission to persons to hold
sales on the sidewalks in the commercial zones of
the City upon such terms and conditions as it may
deem appropriate."
SECTION 4. That inasmuch as it is deemed necessary for the
public health, peace and safety of the citizens of the City of Ashland
that the provisions shall be made immediately operative, it is hereby
declared that an emergency exists and this Ordinance shall be in

full force and effect from and after its passage by the Council and
approval by the Mayor.
The foregoing Ordinance was first read at a regular meeting of the
Common Council held on the_ P' day of 1971, and
passed on its second reading and duly passed on the day of
1971, the vote being as follows:
