HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-20 Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra Day ra - x P, - _.,AI lr \ 1f lt` ~f PROCLAMATION , S The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra (PACO) is celebrating the 50"' anniversary ~ of its founding, in 1966, by William Whitson. • This award-winning youth orchestra has been performing in Ashland as guests of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for most of those fifty years._ • Current music director Benjamin Simon has, since 2002, maintained PACO's excellence, expanded its repertoire, and nurtured new generations of young musicians. E • The philosophy of PACO continues to foster the love of music, a ' commitment to excellence and a sense of responsibility in its members, both _ individually and corporately. The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra's mission of teaching young musicians to "play well with others" is increasingly important in this complex world. • For nearly half a century the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra has been I developing deep friendships with hundreds of members of the Ashland - community through its annual performances at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, on the downtown plaza, and in local retirement homes. • PACO has served as a good-will ambassador with its music in Ashland and ; around the world on its frequent national and international tours, including this year's 14-day concert tour of the Northwest. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council and Mayor, on behalf of the citizens of Ashland, do proclaim June 20, 2016, as Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra Day" x r ' And extend heartfelt thanks to director Benjamin Simon and the entire PACO ` organization for their dedication to the musical and social education of youth from ' third grade through high school, and for their contributions to the quality of life in . ` Southern Oregon through their outstanding concert performances.
