SPECIFICATIONS
June 20, 2016
OVERVIEW
The scope of this project is to build an ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) approved
residential fire sprinkler demonstration trailer made from a CONEX type shipping
container or equivalent, excluding sprinkler system. The trailer will have three compartments
- one for storage, and two in which a fire will be burned. In one burned compartment, a fire
sprinkler head will activate when the temperature at the ceiling reaches about 155 F degrees. In
the compartment without the sprinkler head, the temperature at the ceiling could reach 1000-
1500 F degrees. The trailer will be used to educate the public about the benefits of residential fire
sprinklers.
The trailer will have two demonstration cells (Rooms #2 and #3). One will be equipped with a
fire sprinkler head (Room 2) and one will not be equipped with a fire sprinkler head (Room 3).
Simple and alike furnishings will be placed in each cell. A fire will be set in both cells at the
same time. The fire in the sprinklered cell will be extinguished by the sprinkler head. The fire in
the non-sprinklered cell will be allowed to burn to flashover before firefighters extinguish the
fire.
The residential fire sprinkler demonstration trailer will be towed by various fire departments to
