Fresent,McGee, Nininger, Shinn, Frost; absent Banta, Turner. The minutes cf the previous meeting Caere read and approved as corrected. ~~~r. Banta entered the room and took his seat at the council table. I ~'eport of the Park Commission for the month of August, 1919, reports of the City ~ Jud~,e a,nd Street Commissioner for the month of Sept. , 191 ;a, reports of the Recorder for ~z5 the months of duly and August and report of the City Treagure~ far the quarter ending Sept. 3('th, 1919, were read.. and on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills O.K' d by the Finance Committee anti amounting to 4, X97.63 were read in total amount ohly. Bills covering the expense of two trips taken by the ~~ayor~ and Council to vie~~r the nr.opased x'eser~oir site were a,leo presented, Motion made and seconded that said bills be allowed and warrants ordered dra,~}n in payment thereof. The vote wag as follows Ayes Ba,nt~, ~.~cGee, p~dinin;er, 7hinn, Trost; nays nine; absent Turner. Carried. Bill o° A. L. HoslPr asking for a ten dt~~ys vacation, vas read.On motion a same wag grant ~d. Request of ~T. R. Robison for a ten days leave of ab9ence, beginning Nav• 1, t9~9 was next considered. On~.notion, gable was granted. Contract bet~~een 3. ~1. Clute and the Gity of Ashland for the con:~tructi;~n of cement sidewalks on the west side of Fifth Street tivas read. ~~~oticn made and seconded that. the contract as signed up be accepted. The vote was as follo~~rs: Ayes Banta, ~,~cGee, Nininger, Shinn, Frost; np~,yg none; absent Turt7,Elr. Carried. The council next discussed tale matter of building a shelter for the elk in the Park. Moved by Shinn, seccncied by Frost, that this matter be left to the Realty Committee with power to act. Carried. Ccuncilanan Frost addressed the council stating that he thought the council should go on record as opposed to glob violence and in favor of law enforcerusnt . After some discussion it eras moved by Frost, 7ecoraded by Shinn, that it be the sense of the counci t that they condemn all act, of lawl~.s8 violence by rr~obs all over this country. Carried. The hour of 8 o'clock P.M. ha,vkng arrived the council pr.ocF.eded with the hearing ir. the matter. of the proposed construction of pavement on that part of the Boulevard extending from the east end of the present pavement on said Boulevard to Ashland Street, abd also that part of Ashland Street extending from the Boulevard to "~al.ker Avenue, a,s per ad~Tert isement in the AshJ.a,nd Daily Tidinhs, published the first time Cct. 3rd 1919.' The ordinance having been read the first timg, or motion, the rules were slzsp°nded, mo-thirds voting in favor thereof, and the ordinance was paased to the second reading. After some discussion °dn motiol r the Reco..der was ir~struc~ed to notify 1~lrs. A le ,ate that since the pat~ncil u-as not a party to building the wall they feel they arepnotg liable for the expense. The vote on the motion was as follows; Ayes Banta, r~cGee! Councilman Banta addressed the council relative r to the matter oa congtruc~ing cement crossings on Fifth Street a,nd reco!nme nded that thxee be built b,~ the city. ~'oved by 1ininger, seconded by McGee, tat said crossings be constructed by the City, one across the alley and taro across ~ Street.
