Present Mayor Laatkin; Councilmen Banta, McGee, Shinn, Frost; absent Nininger, Turner, Minutes o.f the previous melting ~►ere rrad and approved as read. Rcprenentatives of the Unions Jil Co• v~ere present and addressed the council x~elatve~ to obtaining permission to install tiro ~5a-gallon gasoline tanks within the city lirriits. After some discussion this matter was deferred to a subsequent meeting when an ordinance covering this ms,tter will be considered. Monthly reports of D. M. Brower, Judge of the City Court, and C. W Fraley, Street Commi$sioner, were read and, on motion, Accepted and ordered placed on file. Report of the Auditing Committee apt _ the accounts of ..x the City Treasurer and City Recorder for the year lyl9, was read arid, on mction, s.ccepted and ordered placed on file, Claims of C. W. Banta and G. M Fro st amounting to X38. ?.K each, for checking accounts of Treasurer and Re carder for the year 1919, also claims of X4.20 each for tacking up street signs were presented and motion made and seconded that said bills be allowed and warrants drawn in payment thereof. The vote was as follows: Ayes Banta, McGee, Shinn, Frost; r:aye none; absent Nininger, Turner. Carried. Councilman Santa recommended that the Recorder's accounts be checked monthly hegeafter. After some discussion the Finance Committee was instructed to carry ~ out said recommendation. Bill of Nims and Saunders for supplies, mounting ~o X3.90 was presented. Moved by Shinn, seconded by McGee that said bill be all wed. Carr o fed. Bills O.K~d by the Finance Committee, and amounting to ~5,1~~7.3K were read in total amount only. Moved by Shinn, Reconded by McGee, that said bills be allow~,d and warrants orde r•ed drawn in payment thereof. The vote was as follows: Ayes Banta, McGee, Shinn, Frost; nays none; absent 1~'ininger, Turner. Carried. Councilman Frost brought up the matter of granting parties living at 143 granite Street permission to build retaining wall in front of their property stating that if the wall is built where it should be it would necessitate removing several trees. Engineer Walker addressed the council in regard to this matter st sting that the walk would have to be built out in tYie street three or four feet. in order to get around the trees. Moved by Shinn, seconded by McGee, that the matter be left to the Street Committee with power to act. Carried. The council next discussed the matter of paving part of Park Street. Councilman Banta stated that he was of the opinion that a petition signed by numerous prominent taxpayers should be presented before ~y action is taken by the council. Moved by Shinn, seconded by McGee, that thematter of securing said petition be left to the Streit Committee. Carried. roved by Banta, Peconded by McGee, that Bar. hTininger be appointed Chairman of the Council far the ensuing year. Carried. Moved by Shinn, r~ecanded by McGee, that a committee of three be appointed by the Mayor to be known as the Automobile Committee. Carried. Thereupon th~,Mayor appointed the fOllowinE Cammittee~  C. W. Santa W. A. Turner A. C. Nininger. r J j ~ The council next discussed the matter of buying a tractor. After considerable discussion it was moved by Banta, seconded by Shinn, that the Street Committee be instructed to hire same farmer owning s tractor to give the council a demonstration. Carried. ~Ir. Banta brought up the matter of purohas ins oil for use at the city dump ground. After some discussion ~r~ Banta gas instructed to secure oil from the School Board if possible. Mr. McGee reported that the Indigent Committee had interviewed Mr• Bonham and found he was not in need of help The Committee also investigated the condition of the Philips family and found Mr. Philips sick and in need of assistance. Free water and lights were granted the parties living at 131 Ghio Street. Mr. Hosler addressed the council stating that the trestles in the canyon were in very bad condition and liable to go down at any time and the pipe line in need of repairs. ~Fte~ some discueion Mr Hosler was instructed to confer with Mr• Rusaill in regard to this matter and have said work done. Mayor Lamkin stated that Mr• Hpmes living at theolc'. Normal building desired the city to help him set poles and string wires in order that he may obtain electric current, the removal of the C.O.P Co's lines having deprived him of lights. On motion, this matter was referred to the Electric Light Committee. There being no further business, on motion, the council adjourned. ~a Mayor Attest; C ty Recorder. Ashland, Oregon, Feb. 1~, 1g20. The council met in regular session at ~;4~5 P.M. an the evening of this date.. Present Mayor Lamkin; Councilmen Banta, Shinn, Frost; absent McGee, Nininger, Turner. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Councilman Nininger entered the room and was acknowledged present. A petition, signed by 14$ petitioners, asking that the Council take steps immediately to provide for an increase in the water supply by cleaning out and enlarging the reservoir was p~~esented. Mr• J. H. Dill, A. C. Jay and other ir~teregted citimens addressed the council in support of the petition. Thereupon v~~ Mayor Lamkin, Engineer Walker, Water Supt. Hosler and several of the councilmen ex- pres9ed their views and outlined pra~ects for increasing the water supply. After prolonged discussion the council decided to put b~~=the matter of voting bonds for this improvement to a vote of the people and the City Attorney wow instructed to ascertain if this measure requires a special election or if it can be voted on at the prmiary electlion to be held in ~~ay. Report of the Library :doard for the year ending Dec. 31, 1.819 was re ad and, on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bill of T. H. Simpson for supplies, amounting to X9.30, was presented and, om motion, allowed. Bi11 of Briggs ~ Briggs amounting to X316.25 for attorneys fees and expenses in the matter of the cases of White .vs. City and Pattersr~n vs. City, woe:. read and, on motion, referred to the Finance Committee, to be acted upon by them along with the regular monthly bills. The resignation of Blanche E, Hicks fror~ the office of official chaperon of public `dances was presented. Loved by Nininger, seconded by Frost, that the resignation be accepted. Carried. A petition ®fgned by C. B. French, W. R. Yockey and others, asking that the council cause Orstreet to be laid out and established at a point near the intersection of Grand View Drive and Wimer Street and running west to the city limits was read and, on motion referred to the Street Committee for a report at the next council meeting. Requisition of the Recorder for office supplies was presented. Moved by Banta, seconded by Nininger that said requisition be allowed.
