~~~inutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
fir. Shinn entered the room and was acknowledged present.
Claim of E. F. Hughes amounting to ~3.2G for refund of water and light rents
overpaid was presented and, on motion same was granted. s
Communication from Kay and Morrison asking for permission ~o replace their three hundred gallon ga3 tank with a five hundred gallon tank was next considered.
moved by Banta, seconded by Nininger that said request be granted. Carried.
~r. i~ininger, Chairman of the Cemetery Committee, reported vn the matter of pla~-
i~6 a price vn a portion of the cemetery tract desired by the State and which eanrot
be used for cemetery purposes, stating that the Committee recommend that the City
offer the State a portion of said tract containing two anti eight-tenths acres for ~6Q0.
After some discussion it was moved by Banta, seconded by Frost that the council accept the report of the committee the price of the land to be the
same as that asked of the
City for additional land adjoining the cemetery. The vote wqs as follows: Ayes
Banta, Frost, McGee, Nininger, Shinn; nays none; absent Turner. Carried.
I~vved by Shinn, seconded by Nininger that said matter be referred to the Realty
Committee with power to act. Carried.
~vved by Nininger, seconded by Shinn that the Realty Committee be authorized to procure an option on the tract of land desired for thirty or sixty
days. Carried.
fir. Dill was present and addressed the council asking that the City vacate
a pvrtivn of the sidewalk in font of the proposed building to be erected by the
Ashland Fuuit and Produce Association. After considerable discussion Mr• Dill was
instructed tv present a petition signed by ~he`vwnexs~~of at least two-thirds of the
property fronting on such street asking that said sidewalk lie vacated, as required by Section 1 of Article XV of the Charter providing for the Bacation
of streets.
sir. Banta stated that C. T. Payne wishes to rent the south side of the Hartley
and recommended that said land be rented for X10.00 per year, Said recommendation
was approved by the council.
sir. Banta also presented the request of A. W. Thomas asking that the City release a pvrtivn of his property on which his house stands from paving
assessments provided
he deeds the City the balance of his property on the Boul~:vard I~r. Hants stated
that hrs. Neville holds the certificates of delinquency on the Helms Tract and recommend-
ed that the City purchase same, ~!o action was taken on the offer of I~r. Thomas.
Zt was moved by Shinn, seconded by Nininger that the Realty Committee be authorized 9
to purchase the certificate as recommended by ~dx. Banta. The vote vn the motion was
as follows: Ayes Banta, ptcGee, Frost, Nininger, Shinn; nays none; absent Turner.
Carried.
Parr. Frost stated' that i~r• Smith on Beach Ave. had complained tv him of the dirt
sliding on his lot and wished the council to furnish lumber sv he could build a re-
taining wall to hold the street back. loved by Shinn, seconded by McGee that the
matter be referred tv the Street Committee Frith power to act. Carried.
.City :Attorney P.riggs brought up the matter of re-leasing the First National Bank the reservoir site vn Crowson Hill. loved by Frost, seconded by Nininger
that the matter
be referred to the Realty Committee with power to act. Carried.
The council next proceeded tv consider a prvpased city ordinance No• 6q3 entitled
"Ar, ordinance dividing the City of Ashland, Oregon, into Electicn Precincts." The
ordinance having passed its first reading a,t the meeting held larch 2nd. Having been
read the second time roll call was ordered on the adoption of the ordinance. The vote was as follows: Ayes Banta, McGee, Frost, Nininger, Shinn,
nays none; absent
Turner.
Thereupon the j~ayor declared City Ordinance No• E~3 adopted.
The council next proceeded to consider a proposed city ordinance entitled " An
ordinance dividing tyre City of Ashland, Oregon, into two wards for the purpose of
holding special city elections." The ordinance having been read the first time, on
motion, the rules were suspended, two-thirds voting in favor thereof and the ordinance was passed to the second reading. Hat.*ing been read the second

'the council next discussed the matter of building a newer for the upper camp grounds.
On motion, the Reoorder was authorized to post notice of intention to cvnstru et sewer in said district. The vote on the motion -eras as follows:

Frost, Shinn, nays none; absent Turner. Carried.
