Present ~~~~ayor ~a_mkim; Council:_~en Frost, Horner, Pierce, Shinn; absent Blake, Joy. ~~iinutes of the previ~~us meeting were read and approved as reed. r Councilmen Blake and Joy entered during the res,ding of the minutes. r• Frost sported that the Sanitary Committee had investigated the matter of s th~~ proposed construction of a server on Laurel Street, Orange ~~1ve. etc. and recomriended the putting in of private septic tanks under the direction of the council and. the Board of Health, After same discussion the engineer was instructed to prepare a profile of the proposed ~e~,~~er district as petitioned for and to make an esti:late of the cost of the °ame. Conner addressed the council in the matter of the proposed road connecting the south end of Terrace Street rerith Glennview Drive. after some discussion it ryas moved by Frost, seconded by Joy that the petition far connecting said streets, as presented by J~• "balker be granted. The vote vase as follo~:~s: Ayes Blake, Frost, Horner, Joy, Fierce, nays none. Yockey Attorney t'T. J. ~~oore~a~dressed the council protesting against the construction of the proposed rand exterdin~ Scenic Drive to Str~~~~~~~1n~°ry Lane. He also read a co.i~11u- nication from :~ir. and ~r~rs. Yockey in r~hich theTU de:anc~ +'aat the city construct a retaining r~all to keep the road from ;~.shing on ~~~~ir property, in cease sarile is opened. The council agreed to proceed r~ith the opening ofi said road. Perozzi ac'cressed the council .agreeing to sign up to~pay his. assessments under the Bancroft Act provided the City would release him from the payment of one-third of his assessment against his tract of land fronting 223.9 feet on Park ave. The- report of the Board of Viec~~ers levying assess_~ents on account of the bitulithic paving improvement of h~Ii11 Street or Park Avenue, as filed with the Recorder, was accepted by the eounc~.l. .Thereupon It ~va~ :coved by Jay, seconded by Fierce that insa.~ch as the improvement w~:s largely a park benefit, the city assume one-third of ~Ir• Peroz~i's assessment and he be a1' owed to sign up for the balance, ar~lountig in all to X942.52. Ireland addressed the council again offering to send the-City of Ashland a Jargon road Fixer on approval. 1o~ed by Fierce, seconded by Joy that the City accept the proposition as represented by ~~ir Ireland, the city to have the right of rejection. The vats was as follows: ayes Blase, Frost, Haxner, Joy, fierce, nays none. Carried. i~. Hosler made requisition for 4" wood pipe to: be used on Terrace Street j also collars needed f~~r the canyon pipe line. iIoved 'oy Frost, seconded by Horner that said requisition be grunted. 'I The c~uncil next discussed the matter of selling a portion of the hitch- ing rack tract on ,'titer Street. On emotion, same ryas' referred to the Realty Committee for investigation and rep ort. ~e ~rv, The 1lurn Adv. Co. made an offer of X1.00 per month f9~ the priv~.lege of ~:antaning a sign board o~, the City's land on North iyain Street. Tha mstter of putting a price on the City's jr p,i.ty near the Dave Good barn was also referred to the Realty 6ommittee. ~3 r °.~ayor Lamkin stated th€~t he had taken up the matter of purchasing additional .and. far cemetery purposes with sir. Parrish and v,ould be able to secure the lend ryesired for w950.00. On motion of~~r Frost the ~~~a,yor was authorized to make the deal ~ with ~~Ir. Parrish for a considerati,~n of X950.00 and the ~~~ayor and Recorder authorized to sign a deed in behalf of the City. The vote an the motion was d.s follows: Ayes Jo ?ierce, na ~ none. ' . Pierce reported that the Sexton of Cemeteries had asked for permission to cut several trees in the cemetery but stated that the Cemetery Committee had declined to grant the recuest. 1+iotion made and seconded that the caretakers be instructed not to remove any trees in the alleys or lots V~ithout authority from the Cemetery Committee. Carried. Bill of Harrison Bros. for one Fordson Tractor, rubber tired ~~heels, extension rims and supplies, in the amount of X1020.85 was next considered. 1+~otion made and seconded that the bill be paid and the amount transferred from the 'dater Fund to the Street .Fund as a loan. The vote was as follo~~~s; Ayes Blake, Frost, Harner, 'doy, Pierce; nays none. Carried. Cormnunfcation from Harrison Bros. asking that the city but up' a rs,iling along the new sidewalk adjoining. the Ford Garage property was read. Cn motion of :.fir. Harner << same was referred to the. Street Committee with p:ovrer to act. Rer~uisit~on of Pinion and '"ertz for new hose for Ashland and ~~~ountain View ce,meteriea was next considered. f~ti.o~'n~,de and seconded that said recuisition be granted. The vote was as follows; Ayes Blake, Frost, Harner, Joy, Fierce, nays none. Carried. Reouisition of the Recorder for office supplies vras read. On motion of ~It • Joy same was granted by the following vote; Ayes Blake, Frost, Harner, Joy, Piero; nays none. ,i~Ir. Noble made an offer of~5.00 for the usa~ of the City's land on East ~uain Street ~c for the coming year. ,:Motion made and seconded that the land be re-leased to ~~ir• Noble as reruested. Carried. s notion ma~a` and..seconded that the Recorder be authorized. to pay half the taxes on thA City's properties, the amount to be paid from the ,rater Sinking Fund. The vote was as follows; ayes Blake, Frost, Kerner, Joy, Pierce; nays none. Curried. Claim of Ashland Band amounting to w50.00 for one month's salary of Leader v~~as pre- sen►ted. .Motion made and seconded that said bi~.l be paid. The vote ~.as as follows; G Ayes Blake, Frost, Harner, Joy, Pierce, nays none. Carried. The council next proceeded to consider City Ordinance No.~1~ entitled "An ordin- ance amending Section 2 of Ordinance No. 562 relating to salaries of fire. department employees", this ordinance having been read the first time~i~arch 1st. The ordinance was read the second time and .roll call tiyTas ordered ~n the adoption of the ordinance and resulted as follows; Ayes Blake, Frost, harper, Joy, Pierce, nays none. Thereu~-on the ~.ayor declared the ordinance adopted. The council next proceed with t,~~ second. reading of City Ordinance No. ~ entitled ordinance amending Section 8 of City Ordina_ac+~ 110. 449 relating to the salary of the City Engineer." The ordinance having been read, ~►n1l ~~l3,rrs.:s.ordered on the adoption of same and resulted as follo~ds; byes Blake, Frost, harper, Joy, Pierce; nays none.
