The council met in regular session at 7:30 o'eioek P.~i. on this date. Present
Mayor Zarnkin; Councilmen Blake, Frost, Pierce, Shinn; absent Joy. Harner.

Councilman Harner entered and took his seat
V.V.i~Iills, F.E.Watson and Marguerite l~lills were present and. addressed the council
in support of their petition for the extension of Scenic Urive from its intersection
with Nutley Street to .Granite Street.After some discussion it ti~~as moved by Shinn,
seconded by Blake that this matter be again referred to the Council as a Whole and tr~Q City Engineer.. Carried. Thursday, Jan. ~}th, at 8:30
o'clock a.M• was set as
the time :-hen the council :hall meet and view the ~~roposed routes.

A petition signed by numerous property owners on Terrace Street, asking that
the council have the grades reduced, necessary culverts installed and drainage
corrected on said strer~t. ~'~oved by Frost, seconded by Harper that the council ex~:mine Te~~race Street at the same tine that tl:e r~raposed extensi
n of scenic Lrive is viewed.
Carried.
Jesse English addressed the council asking that he be allov~ted to remove a number
of broken and dead trees in the park near his property. lujr• English was instructed
to take this matter up with the Park Board as the council has no jurisdiction in the
matter.
:sir. ~G. '~'y.~IeNabb was present and asked for permission to rent the back part of
the City s blacksmith shop on C Street offering to day X7.00 per month for this por-
tion of the building. loved by Frost, s eeonded by Harner that the matter of renting
this shop be referred to the ?salty Committee with po~itiT?r to act. ~1he vote was as
follows: Ayes Blake, Frost, earner, fierce, Shinn; nays none. Carried.
I~ecuisition of Chief of Police Hatcher far six rev:~lvers to be purchased from
the Commanding Officer, Benicia Arsenal, Benicia, Calif• at a cast of not to exceed
6.00 each, and 1000 rounds of a:lmunition, was next considered. Moved by Frost, '
seconded by Blake that the recuisition be granted. The vote was as fol:tows; Ayes
Blake, Frost, Harner, Pierce, Shinn,. nays none. Carried.
Re~~ort of the Recorder for. the_~onth of Ze a, 19~Q, etas presented. On oration,
same was accepted and ordered placed on file.
Report of the City Treasurer for the quarter ending Dec. 31st, 1920, was next
read. On motion, the Trea-Burer's report was accepted and ordered placed on file.

Reports of auditing Committee~\stating that they had examined and audited the
reports and accounts of the Treasurer for to year 1920 and the reports and accounts
of the Recorder for the period beginning Ju ~ 1, 1920 and ending Dec. 31, 1920, and
found the same to be correct. On motion, said resorts were accepted and orderdd
placed on file.
Re~gest of 1.~.A.~Iills for permission to erect a barn on his lot at the corner of Zaurel and Ohio Streets was read. On m~±a,on, said request was
referred to the
Sanitary Committee with power to act..
Communication from Klum Advertising Company was read in which they offer to
c re»b~.ild,~.repaint and maintain the bulletin boards advertising Ashland at _a cost of
3 y~7.50 each per month. Moved by Shinn, seconded by Blake that the council do not
accept the offer of the Klum Adv. Co. Carried. w}oved by Blake, seconded bq Horner
that the matter of finding a location for several sign boards to be arected:a~ d maintained by the City be referred to the Strut Committee, said committee
to report
at the next meeting of the council. Carried.
Communication from Harrison Bros. stating`thatuthey~~annot install th?ir gas
pump until the city has comrleted the construction of the sidewalk was read.
~joved by Frost, seconded by Blake that the city proceed to make the fill, construct the sidewalk and curb and build the retaining wall as soon
as conditions will permit,
said work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. The vote was as
follows; Ayes Blake, Frost, Harner, Shinn; nays none. ~r Pierce was excused from
voting. Carried.
Communication from Emil Feil asking that the city refund him the X4.92 penalty
paid on deli~uent paving lien, '~{'as read ~~Ioned by Shinn, seconded by Harner that
said refund be granted. Carried. '
John Arnold asked that he be allo~,~ed to rent the asceptic tank tract owned by
the City and offered to pay 50.00 and repair the fences for rent of the land for
the year 1921. Loved by Frost, seconded by Blake that the City accept the offer of
fir. Arnold. The vote on the motion was as follows; Ayes Blake, Frost, Harner,
Pierce, Shinn; nays none. Carried.
Recommendation of C.4v.Banta and G.i~.Frost f~:~r the Finance Committee was read
reco::~~mending that the funds of the Park Board. be turned over to the City necorder
instead of the Treasurer. ►iov9~ by Shinn seconded by Blake that the natter be laid
on the table till the next regular meeting. Carried.
Councilman Make brought up the matter of sidewalks in need of repair in front
of the Playa Gravery Store and other parts of the city.. This matter was discussed but the council decided to postpone action until a more favorable
time for doing cement
work.
The co~.ncil next proceeded to consider a proposed agreement between the City of
x~shland and the PostalTelegraph Company covering the joint ownership of two poles
located on i~Iain Street and the alley connecting North iulsin and Oak Streets. The
agreement having been read it was moved by Shinn seconded by Blake that the City enter into an agreement with the 'ostal Tel. Co. and the ~`ayor and
Recorder be authorized
to execute same in behalf of the City. The vote was as follov~~~s; Ayes Blake, Frost,
Harner, Pierce, Shinn; nays none. Carried.
Councilman Frost ad~'ressed the council relative to the improvement of the streets.
Orr motion of ~r• Frost the Street Committee was authorized to procure a Jargon Road
Fixer f~~~? throu~_h Fmil Peil under the terms named, said committee to confer with
fir. Fraley.
On lotion, the council fixed Tuesday, Jan. 5th as the time for the filing of the
retort of the '~oard of Viewers appointed to determine and assess the special benefits
incident to the construction of bitulithic pavement on part of bill ~treet or Park
Avenue in the City of Ashland, Oregon.
The council next discussed the matter of the proposed issue of Refunding Bancroft Bonds. After some discussion it was moved by Shinn, seconded by
Frost that this
matter be turned over to the Finance committee for investigation, and the City
Attorney instructed to prepare the necessary resolution in compliance with the
instructions of the Committee. Carried.

that the poles be changed to the alley. Ke also nought up the matter of buying copper ~~Tire at t'nis time. Moved by Blake, seconded by Frost that
both these prb~osi-
ticns be referred to the Electric Zight Committee with poV;er to act. The vote eras as
follows; Ayes Blake, Frost, Harner, Pierce, Shinn; nays none. Carried.
~r. D.H.I►eedom asked that he be granted permission to tap the sidewalk on North
lain Street in order that he may have ~:ir service installed. l~ioved by Shinn,
seconded by Na.rner that the request be granted. Carried.

council o~'~iln discussed the proposition of guying the small ~~:ece of land at
the corner of T~ort~ ~~iain and Water Struts. ~ov~d b~, ~}~inn. seconded by Blake that the
City offer 1Jr. Butler 11400 for the triangular tract referred to, 1~1r. Butler to have the
necessary plumbing work done at his own exrense and to redove the building within 30
days. The vote was as follows: Ayes Blake, Frost, Harner, Fierce, Shinn,nays none.Carried.
On motion, the council adjourned to meet Tuesday, Jan. 25th at the usual hour.
