Ashland, Oregon, April 1921.
The council met in regular session at 7;3C o'clock P.~~. oh this date. Present
r~!~apor Lamle in; Ca~anc ~ linen Frost, Harner, Joy, Pierce, Shinn; absent, Make.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.

Two representatives of the State Fire ~~arshal Department addressed the council relative to the work of the department for the prevention of fires.
Mr• J. N. Dennis was present and asked that a street light be installed in Block
0, Railroad Addition.
Engineer balker reported that he had made a survey of the proposed Laurel Street
Surer District and stated that the pity's portion of the cost would probably ~r,~otznt
to X1500 or X2000. -
~~r. Otis Helman addressed the council asking that the City improve Laurel and
Otis Streets. On anotion of ~~i Shinn this matter was referred to the Council as a
~~hole and April 6th at 8 ; 30 0' clo tic A.M~ was set as the time to view this street.
A remonstrance against the proposed extension of Scenic Drive, signed by '~.R.
Yockey, Elizabeth Yockey, "~.M.Barber and Mabel J, Barber, vas filed by Attorney W.J Moor
'~onthly reports of ~~~.H.Gowdy and C.`~d.Fz~aley and quarterly report of G. G. Eubanks
were read and, on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file.
Bills O.K.'d by the Finance Committee and amounting to X9,443.13 were read in total j
amount only. ~~oved by Frost, seconded by Shinn that said bills be allowed and warrants
ordered drawn in payment ther~cof. The vote ~~,as as fa110ws: Ayes Frost, Harner, Joy,
Pierce Shinn; nays none. Carried.
Bill of the Coast Culvert & Flume Co. in the amount of X200.00, for one Road Fixer
Yeas next considered. ~Jr. Frost stated that he was in favor of taking until Dec. 1st
to pay se,id 'rill, as offered by sir. Ireland and moved that the bill be held in abeyance
until the council has decided whether or not to buy the Fixer. Carried.
Motion made .a,nd seconded that the bill of X950.00 for land for .~'~ountain View Cemetery be paid upon receipt of the abstract and approval of the ,ame
by the City Atty
The vote teas as follows: Ayes Fro::t, Harner, Joy, Pierce, Shinn; nays none. Carried.
A petition asking that Mechanic Street be improved, signed by ntunerns property
owners interested «ras read. Also a petition asking for the i.iprovement of Iowa St.
The council agreed to view both ~~echanic and Iowa Stre is April 6th.
The council next considered a communication frog G.I~.Billings asking that the City place a sign on the jl.ighway where it leavf~s the old pavement
on North Main Street
near the 1~~est Iimit of Ashland. On motion of ffr. Joy the Street Committee was instruct
ed to secure the sign requested ,also two welcome signs, speed limit signs and school
signs.
Application of Standard Oil Co. for permission to erect a service station of
Lots lrj, 18, 1 > and 20, Block P. Railroad Addition, eras read. On motion of ur. Joy said request was granted.
On motion of Mr. Shinn the Street Committee wo„~ er~ripowered to order the necessary
parts for the repair of the grader, the vote being as follow--: Ayes Frost, Harner, Joy,
Pierce, Shinn; nays lone. ~'~a -ri ed.
The council next proceeded to consider a propa ~ d City Ordinance No• ~ en-
titled "An ordinance relatinf to the Condemnation of a Right-of-'d'ay fob what is known as "Sonic Drive Extension", the same being an extension of Scenic
Drive southerly from
~~utley Street to Strav~berry Lane." The ordinance having been read the fi:°st time, ~

ance was passed to the second reading. Having, been read the second tiJ~e, roll call vlas

The council next proceeded to consid~:r a proposed resolution untitled "Resolution
to provide for calling a special election to be held on the 26th day of April, 1921, fa
the purpose of permitting the qualified electors of the City of Ashland to vote upon th
proposition as to ~!uhether the Common Council of the City of Ashland shall issue ^onds
up to X65,000.00 to refund and to defray existing inde'atedness of the City of Ash~~nd."

Having been read the second time, roll ca?1 eras ordered on the adoption of the resole-

Thereupon the ~~ayor declared the r~;solution adopted.
~r. Pierce reported the Stahlman property on G~~~;,nite Street, occupied by Mr•
. ~~ilhite, to be in a very unsanitary condition. After some discussion, the City Attorney was instructed to prepare a resolution f r the next

district in this locality.

j4otion made and seconded that the Council with the approval of the Park Board,
~ extend an invitation to the Le~icn to place the monum~:n:t in the City Fark.
On motion of id's. Joy, tre City Electrician Maas instructed to put up a post and
install a street light as requested by N:r, Dennis.

Mr. Fuller was present and asked that the City grant the Chamber of Commerce tae Iwo
use of the room now used for storage purposes by the Light Department. Moved by
Shinn that a committ(De be appointe to confer with the Chamber of Comerce and that
they be allowed to fix up the roor, at their ,,1M expense. Carried. Thereupon the
Mayor appointed the Electric Light Committee to act in this matter.
