The council met in regular session at 8 o'clock P.b~. on this date, Present ~f~ayor
Johnson; Councilmen Burdic, High, Peters Taylor,Wiley~ Wright; absent none.

Report of the City ~llanager for the month of July, 1926, was read and on motion of
Wright seconded by Taylor approved and order~.d placed on file.
Bill of tha Ashland Chamber of Commerce, amounting to X218.51, for the City's portion
of the cost of the Auto Camp electric sign e.nd installation was presented. ~Ioved by
Burdic seconded by Taylor that said bill be held over far two ti~reeks. Carried.
Bills O.K'd by the Finance Committee, amounting to X8,637.80, were read in total
amount only. l~~otion made and seconded that said bills be allowed and warrants orderod
drav~m in payment thereof. The vote was as follows: Ayes B~rdic, High, Peters, Taylor
Wiley, ~~~right; nays Hons. Carried.
Requisition of C.A. ~~alone for one time switch, price X162.00, ~ve.s read. t►oved by T*. Taylor seconded by High that said requisition be allo~~ed.
Carried unanimously.
x Requisition of the City eager for fifty gallons of street marking paint was presented.
~goved by 'Kiley seconded by Peters that same be allowed. Carried unanimously.
~,~ayor Johnson presented the resignation of G.hq.Frost as City Judge. ~~o~ed by
Burdic seconded by Taylor that said resignation be accepted. Carried.
Resignation of C.A.~ialone as City tanager eras presented. loved by Burdic seconded
t~~~' by Taylor that the council take two ~~leeks for deliberation before acting on its acceptance.
Carried.
y ~ Resignation of Rose Petit as caretaker of the City dump ground was read and on motion
of '~i~right seconded by ~~iley accepted.
The City ~~ianager subm~.t~ed a verbal report of the earnings~of the Electric bight
Department from Jan. 1, 1925 to Aug. 1, 1926.
The City,~~anager also addressed the council regarding the digging of wells in the
Canyon. He stated he had talked to a well digger who stated he felt confident a 12-inch
well could be dug that would produce a~flo~v of 1000 gallons per minute at a probable cost , ~~a
of X6000.00. No action was taken.
Councilman High reported that the Street Committee had investigated the complaint
of l~~rs. ~~~~.E•Wood regarding the condition of her sidewalk on Laurel Street. They found
the walk could be repaired at a cost of X5.00 and recommended that the repairs be made.
Proved by ~'tright seconded by Peters that said walk be repaired. Carried.
Councilman Taylor stated that he found the dumpground in a very unsanitary condition. After some discussion regarding the purchase of a new dump ground site
it eras moved by
Taylor seconded by High that X50.00 be appropriated from the Emergency Fund for cleaning
up the dump Ground, said work to be done under the supervision of the Sanitary Committee.

roved by Taylor seconded by High that x,1300 be transferred from the Electric Light
Fund to the Street Fund as a temporary loan to tike care of the shortage in the Street
Fund, said amount to be repladed when the back taxes due the City shall have been received
from Jac4son County. Carried unanimously.
~ The matter of building t~.e rest room in the Park was next discussed. It was moved by
:Herdic seconded by Wright that the contract for sa~:d building be a~rarded to Frank Jordan a i of cast lus ten per cent, the old brick from
the HavM*t~►orne School to be used
ana~~ss P in the construction. Carried unanimously.
Mir. E. J. Ararat, 0. ~'~inter and. R.P.Campbell ~~sere appointed a Board of Viewers to
t~o determine and ~.ssess the special benefits accruing to each piece and parcel of land
within Seger district No. 27. ~onday'.~ August pith, at o'clock P.M• and the inneruch
section of Elizabeth and Ashland Streets wore designated as the time and place t~~he s
Vie~vers shall meet and proceed to assess the special benefits.
On recommendation of the City Manager motion was:made and seconded that Elmer Smith
be refunde~. the amount of his phone bill for the past four months and that the City take
care of the bill in the future. Carried unanimously.
The council nett discussed the :natter of cleaning out some of the Springs in the
Canyon with a..view to 'increasing the flow of Ashland Creek It was moved by Burdie
seconded by Ta~~or that the mater Supt. be authorized to spend not to exceed X100.00 in cleaning out suhh spring as he thinks best. Carried unanimously.

The council met in regular session at the call of the ~,~ayor at 8 o'clock P.P~~'. on this
date. Present I~~~ayor Johnson; Councilmen Hardie, High, Peters, Taylor, '~iley, Wright;
absent none.
~~~inutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
A communication from Harry Silver relative to the water question was read and on
motion of Taylor seconded by Herdic laid on the table.
The Realty Committee reported that they had looked over the proposed dump ground site
and that t~~F-.,could be purchased from ~~r. Miller for X1500.00. The Committee recommended that
the site be purchased. Moved by Wright seconded by Ailey that the Council authorize its
purchase. Carried unanimously.
Moved by '~~~ixight seconded by High that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the
necessary contract and that the P,~ayor and Recorder be authorized to sign the same. Carried.
The l~~ayor presented the complaint of a party residing at No. 523 ~dorth I~lain Street
who claimed that the adjoining property was in a very unsanitary condition. ~~r. Hosler
stated that the property was not tivithin any sevler district and the se~~~er would have to be
~ ~ extended before the property could be connected. ~~oved by Burdic seconded by High that
~ tho sevaer be ordered constructed. Carried unanimously.
Councilman Taylor stated that H.G•~Yolcott wishes to buy the City's lot at the corner
of '~hird and A Streets. O.F►Carson, vrho was present, asked for the privilege of making
the City an offer before the lot is sold.
On recommendation of the Recorder it was moved by ~vright seconded by Burdic that
the penalty antl~he delinquent sidewalk assessment of ~'xs. M.E.Wood be remitted. Carried
Moved by Wiley secon~.ed by ~'~right that the money collected for irrigation under the ditch for the month of August be refunded. Carried unanimously.
Councilman Taylor again brought up the water question. He stated that he was in
favor of buying 300 or 4Q0 additional acre feet of water from the Talent Irrigation
District, He was also in favor he said of conserving the water in Ashland Creek Canyon
by a storage dam and of replacing such city mains as are inadequate, and he thought he
would favor the installation of meters. He stated that he thought the council should take definite action this Fall. After some discussion it was moved
by Taylor seconded
by Burdie that the Council place on the ballot at the November election the proposition
of bonding the City for a sufficient sum to purchase 400 additional acre feet of water
from the Talent Irrigation District. Carried unanimously. Mr. Taylor asked the oouncil's
opinion in regard to building a reservoir on Crowson Hill.
Councilman Wiley stated that he thought steps should be taken at once to build a
storage dam in the Canyon.
Councilman ~~right Mated that of the teo propositions he favored the building of a

would be from a reservoir in the Canyon. He said he was also strongly in favor o buying
additional water from the Talent Irrigation District and perhaps later building a dam in the Canyon. Moved by Wright seconded by High that the proposition
of building a reservoir on
Crowson Hill be also placed on the ballot this Fall. Carried unanimously.
Councilman High stated that he thought the only solution of the water problem was the
building of a reservoir in the Canyon. He thought the Mayor and Council, together with the
City Engineer and others interested should go up the Canyon and look the situation over.
