Carried. ? Mayor Johnson appointed C. J. Baughman City Judge to fill the unexpired term of G.M Frost resigned. ~~~oved by Burdic seconded by Taylor that the appointment be confirmed. Carried. Petition of J.H Philpott and others asking that crosswalks be constructed across Blaine Street o~1 both sides of Alida was referred to the Street Committee for investigation and report at the next meeting. The council next proceeded to consider an ordinance entitled "Ordinance levying special benefits assessments in the matter of the construction of cement sidewalks, curbs and gutters in Sidewalk Curh and gutter district No. 3." The ordinance having been read the first time, on motion, .the rules were suspended, six voting in favoE thereof, and the ordinance was passed to the second reading. Having been read the second time, roll call was ordered on its adoption. The vote was as fO11owS: Ayez Burdic, High, Peters, Taylor, Wiley, Wright; nays none. Thereupon the ~~ayor declared pity Ordinance No. ~ g~ ~ adopted. Bill of Calvert ~ Schroeder for building crosswalks, etc. amounting to X1571.42 was presented. The matter of the shortage in the Street Fund was discussed. It was moved by Wright seconded b y High that a special band election be called for the purpose of ra~;$~mg X5000 to cover the deficit. The dote was as follows: Ayes Burdic, High Peters, Taylor, Wiley, Wright; nays none. Carried. Dr. F. G. S~T~edenburg addressed the council protesting against the condition of Fountain Avenue and asked that he be alloti~~ed to grade the street and deduct the cost thereof from his sidewalk assessment. He also urged the council to appoint a water Board and spoke at some length on the water question. Dr. Swedenborg was assured that the council would allow nothing to pte~~nt them from putting the various water propositions outlined at a former meeting, on the November ballot. The council next proceeded to consider an ordinance entitled ('Ordinance repealing Ordinance No. 823 which created the office of City ~y~anager." The ordinance having been read the first time, on motion, the rules were suspended, six voting ~.n favor thereof, and the ordinance was passed to the second reading. Having been read the second time, roll call was ordered on its adoption. The vote was as follotiv~s: Ayes Burdic, High, Peters, Taylor,, Wiley, ti~lright; nays none. Thereupon the r2ayor declared City Ordinance No. 8 3~.. adopted. ___r_ Mr. r@~alone stated that the cost of grading 1~iountain Avenue could be borne by the Electric bight Fund. On motion of Taylor seconded by Wiley the Street Commissioner was instructed to put Z~ountain Avenue in passable condition at once, all voting in favoE thereof. The request of C.W.Stinson for a refund of the penalty paid on delinquent wader rent ~ was presented but no action was taken. On motion, the council adjourned subject to call. Moved by ~Yiley, seconded by Wright, that the Council proceed to make apreliminary in- vestigation of the two reservoir sites selected by the council on this date. Carried. ~-Ioved by ~'a,~rlor, seconder. by ~u~d.i~ that Frank Dillard be employed to take care of the preliminary work in connection with the two sites. Carried unanimously. Moved by Taylor seconded by High that the Water Superintendent be authorized to make test pits,~the~work to be done at once. Carried unanimously. Reservoir Site lti{o. 1 has a capacity of approximately 1100 acre feet and is to be known as the ~Ic~Lissick Site. Reservoir Site No. 2 has a capacity of approximately 849 Acre feet and is to be known as the Winburn Site. The council next proceeded to consider a resolution entitled " Resolution calling a special election of the electors of the City of Ashland, Oregon, to be held on the lst day of September, 1926." The resolution having been read the first time, on motion the rules were suspended, six voting in favor thereof, and the resolution was passed to the second reading. Having been read the second time, roll call was ordered on its adoption.
