Present Mayan Johnson; Councilmen High, Peters, Taylor, Wiley, ~~Jright; absent Burdic. I~iinutes of the meetings of Aug. 17th and Aug. 19th, 1926, were read ana approved as read. The council next considered a communication from the State Board of Healthrecommending that the city repair the septic tanks vrhich are leaking, and calling the attention of the council to Sections 8460-8462, Code of 1920, which provides that the State Board of Health shall advise and approve water and seM~;er systems before the work of construction has proceeded. On motion of Taylor seconded by Peters the Recorder was ins~ructed to g'ti write the Board of Health advising them of the improvements contemplated and inviting their co-operation. Communication from the Zumbermen's "Trust Co. Bank of Portland, expressing their desire to submit a proposition for the hanaling of the legal s~tiork incident to the election on .the proposed water bond issue, was read. The City Attorney recommended that the services of 4 some bond attorney be secured. " City Engineer made a herbal report of the progress of the water investigation. On recommendation of Sys. Walker it w«s moved by Taylor seconded by 4'"fright that Engineer Dillard be authorized to spend approximately X300.00 in raking a preliminary survey•of the t'~ cost of bringing the ~vater from Cold Springs into Ashland, C~,rried~ unanimausly'~ ' - 1 ~~~oved by Wiley seconded by Wright that the City Engineer be instructed to proceed to get an option on 400 acre feet of water from the talent Trrigation District, if possible, Carried unanimously. ~ Moved by Taylor seconded by High that the City Attorney be instructed to find out from a Bonding House the maximum amount the Cit~t can be bonded for. Motion made and seconded that the council resolve itself into a canvassing board and proceed to canvass the returns of the election held on this day. Carried. The canvass having been made was ascertained to be as follows: MEASURE S~BT~ITTED TO THE VOTERS BY THE CO~;~.20N COUNCIh. First Second Total Ward Ward 3;<. Shall the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Ashland issue general obligation bonds of said City in a sum not exceeding Five Thousand 05,000.00) Dollars; said bonds to mature in ten years from the date thereof; x` to bear interest at the rate of five per cent per annum, funds to be realized therefrom to be placed in the street fund of the said City for e~treet improvement purposes? ~r. 100 58 103 161 101 138 _ 110 248 z ~ ~,~ajority voting against the measure, 87. fihez~eupon the i~~ayor declared the measure lost. ~~Zoved by Burdic seconded by High that the council return to the regular order of t business. Carried. Communication from G. A. Briscoe asking that Beach Street be completed by Sept. 20th and that dolly St. be extended was read and, on motion, laid on the tab~.e. ~~oved b Ta for seconded by Burdic that the Street Supt. be instructed to cease ~ Y Y all work in Sidewalk District No. 3 except such as can be done from time to time by the regular force. Carried unanimously. 4  Moved by High seconded by Burdic that the Street Department be cut down to there Superintendent and one man. Carried. Moved by Peters seconded by 'i'liley that the Finance Committee be instructed to see what arrangements can be made to borrow not to exceed X2500 from the Bank, said committee to report back to the council. Carried unanimously. Moved by Burdic seconded by Peters that the Election Board be paid not to exceed $4.85 each for t it service Carried. On motion, the c7" c' adjourned. t ~ Mayor Attest: Recorder
