Present Mayor Pierce, Councilmen Bergner, Kay, Peters, Thornton, t~~hite, 'Woods. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Annual report of the City Treasurer was read and, on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file. The council next proceeded to open bids for the X4,549.38 issue of City of Ashland Improvement Bonds. The bid of J. J. ~eNair was the only one received. &2oved by Bergner seconded by Kay that the bid of J.J.pleNair of par, accrued interest and 135.00 premium be accepted. Carried unanimously. Communication from C. I. J. Porter as king that he be granted permission to con- struct approaches on North fain Street and Skidmore Street to his property at 308 North I~~ain Streeton which a filling station is to be constructed, was read. Mr. H.C. High addressed the council in support of ~It. Porter's request. The Street committee having made an investigation and no Britten protest having been filed by any interested party it was moved by Toads seconded by White that 1~ir. Porter be granted permission to con- struct said approaches for the purposes of a filling station only, the work to be done under the supervision of the Street Committee. Carried. crater Supt. Hosler addressed the council regarding the need of two trucks for the }Hater Department. He asked that a 1927 Chevrolet truck be purchased to take the plane ¢ of the old 1920 Ford and requested permission to take over the City's ambulance, which he stated could be put in proper condition for x;387.75. On motion of ~Yoods seconded by Bergner this matter was referred to the 'eater Committee for investigation. The request of H. Silver that the City bear half the expense of building approximat- ely 50 rods of fence between his property and t the City's Lithia Spring tract 5 was presentee and on motion of Bergner seconded by V~oods referred to the muter Committee. Mayor Pierce stated. that in Dec. 19:6 he was appointed a committee to negotiate with i~r. and hers. Heath for a reservoir site. He stated that the necessary papers had been prepared and a payment down of X100 made to Mr. and hers. Heath and a payment of x;5.00 to hrs. ~riellor. He asked that the council approve his action in this matter to the prevent date. moved by `Moods seconded by `~7hite that the council approve the action of the committee in taking options on the land for the site. ~~oved by White seconded by Thornton that the motion be amended to approve the purchase of the reservoir site and the drawing of warrants at the proper time. Vote on amendment Ayes: Berkn~r Kay, Peters, Tharnton, "dhite, w"foods; nays none. Carried. Vote on original motion. Ayes Bergner, Kay, Peters, Thornton, 6~Jhite, ~~doods; nays none. Carried. Councilman Peters reported that he had interviewed dirs. Louisa Faye regarding the purchase of a strip of her land. He reported that she had offered to sell the City the land the bridge sets on for X100.00 or enough for the extension of Henry Street for X350., 6 said street to be 36 feet in width. Moved by Bergner seconded by w~mds that the report of the Street Committee be approved and said committee be granted power to act. Carried unanimously. The matter of the complaint of J. I~. Easterling regarding the storm overflow on Beech Street above Henry St. was referred to the street Committee for investigation. 7 i 0. F. Carson, representing the Chamber of Commerce, requested permission to erect a sign on the, Plaza directing the attention of tourists to the Chamber of Commerce office. h~loved by Kay seconded by w`~oods that said request be granted. Carried. Councilman '~~oods reported that the Sanitary Committee had looked at a number of ossible dump ground sites but was not red to make recommendations at this time. p ~ The committee, he said, would report further later. He also stated that he and the Mayor had investi ated the condition of the Smith poultry farm on Oak Street and were of the opinion that ~ ordinance to regulate same would be unnecessary.. The election of a Cii~rman of the Council was next proceeded with. h~oved by Borgner seconded by Kay that dir. Tharnton be nominated. moved by ~~oods seconded by Kay that the nominations be closed and the ~animous vote of the council be cast for Mr. Thornton. The vote was as follows: Ay;s Bergner, Kay, Peters, ~~hite, Woods; nays none. Tiiereu on the h~ayor declared hlr.
