Present Mayor Thornton Councilmen Bergner, Kay, Peters, v~Jhite Moods; absent none. n: Minutes of the previous meeting v~rere read and approved as read. Report of C. A. Malone for the month of December, 1927, was read and, on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills O.K'd by the Finance Committee, amounting to X1,720.69, were read in total amount only. Motion made and seconded that said bills be allowwd and warrants ordered drawn in payment thereof. The vote on the motion was as follo~rs: Ayes Bergner, Kay, Peters White, Woods' na s none. Carri d ~ y e . ~m Councilman Kay stated that he had taken the matter of the ear license fee up with ~~y r,~r. Baughman and the same had been settled satisfacorily. a~~ 4~ ~s Councilman Bergner reported that on account of bad weather nothing had been done ~3 by the committee appointed to investigate the matter of an airport for Ashland. The Mayor stated that nominations would now be in order for councilman to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Thornton. lbs. Bergner nominated Dr. Blake to fill the vacancy. Dr. Woods nominated S.D. Ta~l~rr. The councilmen then proceeded to ballot. The ballots ~=sere then counted and ,b ~ I~0 the result ascertained to be as follo~~as: Blake- 2 votes. Taylor- three votes. The 16~ayor then declared ~g~r. Taylor elected Councilman. The council next proceeded to consider a resolution entitled 'Resolution expressing the appreciation of the Common Cou~,cil and people of the City of hshland for the ser- ~ votes rendered by ~Flayor C. H. Pierce during the past year.' The resolutian having been read the first time, on motion, the rules ~~ez'e suspended, five doting in favor thereof, and the resolution was passed to the second reading. Having been read the second time, roll call was ordered on its adoption. The vote ~~as as follows: Ayes Bergner, Kay, Peters White Woods; nays none. Thereupon the Is:ayor declared the resolution adopted. The council next proceeded to consider an ordinance entitled "Ordinance providin g for and fixing the salaries and compensation of elective and appointive officers of the City of Ashland, Oregon, for the year 192." The ordinance having been read the. first time, on motion, the rules were suspended, five voting in favor thereof, and the ordin- t ante was passed to the second reading. Having been read the second time, roll c-all was ordered on its adoption. The vote was as follows: Ayes Bergner, Kay, Peters, Y"~hite, ~~::rv ' Woods ; nays none . bE. Thereupon the ~~ayor declared City Ordinance No. 861 adopted. ,,e 0. T. Bergner stated that he wished to resign, said resignation to take effect immediately. The City Attorney having stated that the resignation was not in proper form, Councilman Bergner presented the same in v~rriting. It ~~as moved herd seconded that action on the resignation be deferred for a few days.. Carried. The Mayor stated that he would not make his appointments for the coming year at this time. Mr. Goggins again asked that the council act do his request regarding his contract with the City.
