Bills O,K'd by the Finance Committee, amounting to 865.26, were read in total amount only. l~Iotion made and seconded that bills be allowed and ~^.~arrants ordered drawn in payment thereof. The vote tivas as fo11o~F~~s; Ayes nay, Peters, ~'aylor, White, Woods; nays none. Carried. ,The Mayor brought up the matter of the City taking three memberships in the Oregon State r~.~otor Association, at a cost of ;36.00. It was moved by Peters, seconded by Moods that three memberships be purchased. Carried. City Attorney Wm. Briggs offered to sell the City a 1926 Chrysler Roadster for use of the Police Dap~rtment for X400 cash. The matter was taken under advisement. The Committee appointed t~ look into the matter of purchasing an airport reported that they had looked at three sites. They recommended that the Chamber of Commerce act with them. The matter of extending the lighting system on the :boulevard was discussed but no action was taken. On motion, the council €:d journed subject to call. Mayor. City Treasurer Annual reports of the Ashlc~~.nd Library Board and Sexton of Cemeteries and monthly report of the Supt. of the lectric Light Bepartment were read and, on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file. Bills O.K'd by the Finance Committee, amounting to 48,851.70, were read in total amount only. It~otion was ma~.e and seconded that s~.id balls be allowed and. warrants ordered drawn in payment thereof. The vote ~i~as as follows: Ayes Bergner, Kay, I~eters~ White, ~~`doods; nays none. Carried.. Communication from the Ashland Library Board asking that Donald M. Spencer be i appointed a member of said Board to succeed Pt~~rs. C. V'i. Nims, was read and, on motion, of Woods seconded by Kay, I~on~ld lei. Spencer was appointed a member of the Board, all voting in favor the~~eof. The council next proceeded to consider a petition from the C~lifornia~PQtroleum ~,I Corporation requesting permission to erect a service station on the southeast corner of 1~~ain and Helman Streets. On motion of ti'~oods seconded by Kay the matter was i referred to the Street Committee with po~r,~er to act. Councilman hay reported the purchase of a new aid compressor for the Electric Light Department. He stated that the price of the new compressor ~~rould be X1756 f. o. b. Ashland less an allot~rance of t~275.00 on the old machine. P=loved by Bergner seconded by White that the action of the Llec~ric Light Committee in purchasing a ne~Tr compressor be approved. The vote ~F,~as as follotir~s : Ayes Bergner, Kay, y~eters, ~'Jhite , Woods ; nays none. Carried. Councilman Kay also reported that the Electric Light department is extending the poles on the Boulevard. Moved by White seconded by Peters that the action of the Electric Light Committee in g5ing ahead with the placing of said poles be approved. Carried. Councilman Kay and i4~'. P;~~alone addressed the council regarding the proposed new contract bet~~~reen the City of Ashland and the California Oregon Box dumber Co. The City Attorney was instructed to prepare a contract in accordance v~rith the recommendations of ~~Ir. ~~ialone. water ~.fter some discussion motion was made and seconded that the Armory be made a~rate of X5.00 per month beginning Jan. 1, 1928. Carried. Councilman d"~hite reported that complaint had been ma~~e to him regarding the setting of the pole at the intersection of Sherman Street and the Boulevard. He recommended that the parking strip be cut dog°m and the corner rounded off at this point. No action was taken. Councilman Kay repomr~erided that the hos~oital lot be terraced and filled with material _ ~  suitable for the growing of flowers. The City Engineer reportea the propaue cost oz tnls improvement to be X50.00. On motion of IvVoods seconded by Kay the matter was referred 1 1 -a: s~ .m to the Realty Committee with poj4rer to act. `}r An ordinance regulating the disposal of garbage was read the first time. Dr. 4~~oods reported a need for some planking for the dump ground. r~iove~ by Bergner seconded by Wihite that the Sanitary Committee be authorized to purchase said lumber. 5q, Carried. The ~;Iayor again recommended that the City purchase timber land in the tshland eater W Shed from the Government. l:Ioved by ~~loods seconded by Bergner that the City 1'~ttorney be instructed to take up the matter of purchasing said land with Congressman Hawley and that he be requested to intruduce a bill similar to Portland's. Carried. ~iloved by peters seconded by ~Noods that the City advertise for bids for the con- struction and material for tvUTo types of dams, Friday, Feb. 24th, 1928, to be fixed as the time for opening said bias. Carried. ~~'ayor Thornton stated that he has been asked to appoint a Boxing Commission. appointed the following named persons: Amos i~ininger Ben Bovgers, Jr. J. E. Norstrom Dr. C. A. Haines. On motion; said appointments were approved. The matter of purchasing a ne~~r car for the Police Department was discussed. ~e ' price of a new Chevrolet coach was reported to be 41;777.50 with an allowance of X200 for the old car. Communication from J. W. ~~cCoy was read in tiRrhich he called the attention of the Council to the fact that the L.e~crow and deeds conveying the right of way for the high drive are being held in The First National Bank owin to the fact that certain conditions in the escro~►as have not been complied with. This mater w~..s rea'erred to the Street Commissioner and ~igineer ~~alker for investigation and report. ~ TI_e matter of constructing a fence alone the edge of the lov~Ter reservoir was brought E u b Councilman Peters. After some discussion the V`~ater Supt. was instructed to prepare a an estimate of the cost of building said fence and to present same at the next council I meeting. Councilman 'ti`+~ite reported that the Street Committee had granted the California Petroleum Corporation permission to erect a service station at the corner of North ~F Fain and Hellman Streets. Their request for permission to take material from the nigh Drive for filling the lot was referred to the Street Commissioner and. On motion, the Realty Committee was instructed to re-assess the lots and to report at the next council meeting. The yor appoimted Mr. Bergner a member of the Realty Committee to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. Taylor. IMotion was made and seconded that Mrs. Tallman be notifked to have her house at the corner of Coolidge and North Main Streets connected with the serer. Carried.
