The council met in regular session at 7:30 o'clock P.M. on this date. Present ik~ayor
Thornton; Councilmen Bergner, Blake, Kay, Peters, White, Woods; absent none.
3 N~inutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Report of C. A. Malone for the month of ~~ay, 1928, was read and, on motion, accepted
and ordered placed on file. f
Communication from the ShQ~.:C Company of Ca~,~.fnrri ~ asking the Count~tl to ant them
permission to erect an electric sign at their service station at the corner of Helman and main Streets was read and, on motion, referred to the Street
Committee with power to
act.
Bills O,K'd b the Finance Committee, amountin to ~`'25 970.37 w y g ~ , ere read in total
amount only. Motion was made and seconded that said bills be allowed and warrants ordered
drawn in payment thereof. The vote was as follows: Ayes Bergner, Blake, Kay, Peters,
White, Woods; nays none. Carried.
Moved by Bergner seconded by Woods that the Recorder be instructed to transfer X15,000
more from the Electric Light Fund to the tNater Works Construction Fund , said amount to be
returned as soon the bonds have been sold. Carried. unanimously.
The hour of $ o'clock having arrived the council proceeded to open and consider the
bids received for the X200 ,000.00 issue of 'dater Bonds. The bids submitted were as follows:

Moved by Woods seconded by Kay that the bid of Bond, Goodwin & Tucker, E.H.Rollins ~ Sons
and Bkyth Witter ~ Co. be accepted. Carried unanimously.
C. A. Malone addressed the council regarding his experiments in oiling the road through
the park, and a portion of Granite Street, stating that the approximate cost of said improde-
ment would be X225.00 plus the labor. Moved by aYoods seconded by Bergner that the matter
of oiling said streets be referred to the Street Committee with power to act. Carried
unanimously.
The matter of leasing 22 city lots to Mr. A.Z.Coggins was again discussed but action
was deferred pending further investigation.
The council next proceeded to elect the chairman of the Council. Dr. 'Hoods nominated
Councilman Peters. Moved by 6~lhite seconded by ~~oods that the nominations be closed and the
Recorder instructed to cast the unanimous ballot for Mr. Peters. Carried. a The Mayor then declared Mr. Peters duly elected Chairman of the Council
for the remainder of
the year 1928.
The matter of installing a telephone at the dump ground was discussed but no action was
taken. a
Moved by Peters ~secanded by 'Moods that the City Attorney be authorized to call on the proper authorities in T~ashington D.C. regarding the sale of
timber in the Ashland water shed
Carried.
On motion, the council adjourned subject to call.

The council met at the call of the Mayor at 5 o'clock P.M. on this date. Present Mayor
Thornton; Councilmen Blake, Kay, goods; absent Bergnerv Peters, White,
A communication from the Shell Company of California asking for a permit to build,
operate and conduct a distributing station for gasoline and lubricating oils on property
at the corner of Laurel and Oberlin Streets, was read. A`oved by Woods seconded by Blake that
said permit be granted. Carried. !1
