d i The council met at the call of the ~:ayor at 7.,,0 o cloak P.M. on this date.
Present Mayor Thornton; Councilmen Bergner, Blake, Kay, Peters, White, 'Hoods; absent
none.
The matter of the type of light standard to be selected was discussed. It was moved by Bergner seconded by Blake that the City purchase the granite
poles and Mr.
Malone be instructed to order them at once. Carried unanimously.
The council next proceeded to consider
~A petition signed by 38 residents of Granite Street asking for an improvement
in the lighting system on said street and suggesting that some of the lighting stand-
arils now being replaced on Main Street be used in making this improvement.
Mr. Malone submitted an estimate of the cost of putting in 25 brackets and new fixtures on the wooden poles on Granite Street. He stated that owing
to the method
in which the cement standards were built it would be a~.most impossible to move them
without breaking them up. It was moved by Blake secanaed by Bergner that the petition
be laid on the table for the present. Carried. The Mayor then referred this matter
to the Electric Light Committee for investigation and report.
The Mayor recommended that Mountain Avenue be oiled and that the cost thereof be
charges to the 'eater Works Construction Fund. It was moved by Woods secan~.ed by Bergner that the Street Committee be empowered to instnuct Engineer
Dillard to have
Mt. Ave. oiled to abate the dust nuisance and that the expense thereof be borne by the
Water Works Con. Fund. Carried.
Pr. Woods reported that he had received an offer of X50.00 for the small triangular
tract of land on North Main Street adjoining the Gas. Co's property. Moved by Bergner
seconded by Blake that the matter of disposing of said property be referred to the
Realty Committee with power to act. Carried.
Moved by Blake seconded by Woods that tree Recorder be instructed to publish notice
of intention to construct cement sidewalks on both sides of Bush Street from Main St. k
to Upper Almond Street, curbs on both sidew of North Main Street and cement sidewalks
on the south side of North Main Street us far as Sheridan Streets Tuesday, Sept. 1$th
to be fixed as the time for the hearing of any objections thereto. Carried.
On motion, the council adjourned subject to call of the Mayor. The Mayor announced that an executive session of the unc' ould be held
immediately.
