The council met in regular session at 7:30 o'clock P. M. on this date. Present

Minutes of the previous meeting ~~~ere read and approved.
Bflls amounting to X55.95 were presented. ~Rotion made and seconded that said
bills be allovaed and. warrants ordered drUwn in payment they:°e of. The vote was a~a follows:
Ayes- Blake, Claycomb, Hersey, Ta~Tlor, '~~1er.ner; nays none. Carried.
Report of the Ashland Public Library Board for the year ending Dec. 31, 1928, was read and, on motion, accepted and ordered placed on file.

t Communication from the Library Board, asking that Mr. A. C. Toy be ap pointed as
a member of the Board to succeed himslf, was read. I~7oved by Claycomb seconded by Blake
that l~'~r. Joy be appointed a member of said Board as requested. Carried unanimously. r
Neal Heard, residing at 275 Otis Street, addressed the council stGting that his
2 Neighbor had fenced in part of the street and. the fire plug. This matter was referred to the Fire Committee for investigation.
Report of C. A. Malone for the month of Dec., 1928, was read and, on motion,
accepted and ordered placed on file.
Dr. Blake presented the request of Gaston Fernand for the extension of the water
main to the Balfour Gutherie property on I~'evada Street, the approximate cost of which was estimated to be X175.00. On motion, this matter was
referred to the eater Committee
3 with power to act, all voting in favor thereof.

Requisition of E. t~. Hosler for approximately feet of 15" inch sewer pipe

said requisition be allowed. The vote on the motion u~~as as follows: Ayes Blake, Clay- {

Councilman Claycomb reported that the Street Commissioner had checked over the City
o~d found that 120 street signs Mrere needed and that these are now being made at a cost
10 cents each for painting plus'the cost of the material.

4 Mayor referred this matter to a special committee consisting of Hersey, Taylor and
~denner.
The ~ia;~or and Councilmen ~~Yenner and Blake reported that they had looked over the
n w K wcii ~ s hospital and found `~~e ~~oor~ in need of repair.: .The .estimated cost of painting and
cal.somining was stated to be X350.00 and laying linoleum in ten rooms an~~ the halls
X685.00. The matter of making these improvements was discussed but no action was taken
at this time.
Requisition of the Y~later Supt for parts for repairing water meters, amounting to
approximately-~~30.00 was presented. It was moved by Claycomb saconded by '~lenner
that said requisition be allowed. The vote was as follows: Ayes Blake, Hersey,
Claycomb, Taylor, 'rVenneY°; nays none. Carried.
A complaint regarding unsanitary conditions at the Cannery was referred to the
j 5 Sanitary Committee.
The Mayor read an agreement between the ?~iickelson Estate and Fred Snyder for the
erection of a fountain to be located either at the corner of the Library or ~h:the
corner of the lot owned by the City at the intersection of FGst Peiain Street and the
Boulevard.

Engineer Walker reported that he had received three offers for the cement testing
machine - Klamath Falls X625.00 E. W Lazell, Portland X650.00. The City of
1~~`edford ~~;681 for the testing machine, screens► etc. ~rioved by Blake seconded by Claycomb
that the Engineer be authorized to accept the offer of the City of Medford. The vote
was as follows; Ayes Blake, Claycomb, Hersey, Taylor, ~'tenner; nays none. Carried.
The Mayor stated that he would combine the Sanitary Committee and Board of Health.
The council next proceeded to consider a proposed city ordinance entitled "Ordinance
providing for the fixing the salaries and compensation of elective and appointive officers
of the City of Ashland, Oregon, for the year 1929." The ordinance having been read the
first time, on motion, the rules ti;rare suspended, five voting in favor thereof, and the
ordinance was passed to the second reading. Havin,:::~ been read the second time, roll call was ordered on its adoption. The vote was as follows:
Ayes Blake, Clay°omb, Hersey,
Taylor, '~►'enner, nays none. ,
Thereupon the Mayor declared City Ordinance ado. z adopted.
On motion, the council adjourned subject to call of the P~iayor.
