Present Mayor Thornton; Councilmen Bergner,Blake, Claycomb, Hersey, Taylor, Wenner; absent none. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. s Report of the City Treasurer for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 1928, was read and, on motion, accepted. Bills O.K'd by the Finance Committee, amounting to 157.18, were read in total amount only. ~~,~otion was made and seconded that said bills be allowed. The vote was as follo~~~s: a Ayes Bergner, Blake, Claycomb, Hersey, Taulor, ,~enner; nays none. Carried. .Petition signed by seven citizens asking that that part of Strawberry Lane extending ~ from Grs.nite Street to Scenic Drive be properly graded, repaired and improved, was read and, on motion, referred to the Street Committee for investigation. Y Request of H. C. Stock for permission to remodel the fron of his building on North 7 Main Street was read and, on motion, referred to the Street, Water and Electric Light. Committees. Communication from J. Z. Franzen, Secretary of the League of Oregon Cities, asking the City of Ashland to join the League was read but no action was taken. of Miss Harkins The hour of 8 o'clock having arrived the council. proceeded to consider the bid~to lease the Community hospital. T1o other bids having been received at this time it was moved by Cyaycomb seconded by Taylor that the Realty Committee be instructed to formulate 8 abase with ~~~iss Harkins on the terms agreed upon and to submit same to the council:f'for their approval. ~arriec~- The City Attorney's answer to the claim of J. C. Compton ~ Parker Schram Go., also a letter to the Mayor relative to this matter was read. Ex-Councilmen Kay, Vhite and Woads were present and took part in the discussion which followed, but no action was taken at this time. The ~~T~yor also read a letter from the City Attorney in which he suggests that the Community Hospital building be turned over to the State for dormitory purposes. After some discussion it ~r~~as moved by Bergner seconded by Blake that Ms. Briggs be notified that the time is too short for any action along the lines suggested. Carried. Councilman Taylor reported. that ~"r. Bailey, residing on Otis Stre:~t, has been noti- fied to move his fence back on the property line. Councilman Blake brought up the matter of purchasing two meters to measure the `T'alent j~~'ater. mhe matter was discussed but action was deferred. The P~ayor recommended that free water and lights to July 1, 1929, be granted the following named persons: ~~rs. Robert Casey 461 Allison St. ~~rs. B. Hatch 355 Almond St. r~~rs. S. T. Gregg 394 Gresham St. Mrs. A. Ba~ld~rin 31G North ~~ain St. ' ~~rs. J. A. Tompkins 724 North ~~ain St. r lti~rs. ~kacomber 199 Meade St. Mrs. J. ~aorred 79 1V'utley St. J. B. Tellon 498 Oak St. loved by Bergner seconded by Blake that free lights and water be granted the aforenamed ~ Z persons as recommended by the I;~ayar. Carried. The Recorder was instructed to notify C.J.Steward, ~~ark Smith, ~Rrs. CGtherine Silver, ~r~rs. Kennedy ana ~;~rs. Geo. '~'tatson that free water any lights will be discontinued on Feb. 1, 1929.
