Ashland, Oregon, Feb. 5, 1929.
The council met in regular session at x:30 o'clock P.i~i. on this date. Present ~;ayor
Thornton; Councilmen, Bergner, Blake, Claycomb, Hersey, '~~enner; absent Taylor

Report of C. A. .:alone for the month of January, 1929, tiT~as read and, on motion,
accepted and orderd placed on file.
Bi11s O.K'd by the Finance, amounting to X8,622.34, were read in tota 1 amount only.

nays none. Carried.
Request of Elsie Lo~~~re, administratrix of the Victoria Nickelson Estate, that she
be granted the right to have the ~~~ickelson ~~emorial Fountain erected in the little park
at the Public Library corner, i~ras read but no action was taken.
Councilman '~~enner again brought up the matter of the hospital lease stating that
I;~iss Harkins had made another proposal according to the terms of which she agrees to
pay . rental for the hospital pro~.erty~ in improvements to the amount of~1,800, said
improvements to be made at the rage of X600.00 each. year of the lease. After some
discussion it was ~jloved by Claycomb seconded by Blake that the terms of the lease be
accepted and that it be dra~;m up in proper form for signatures. The vote on the motion
iAras as follo~rs : Ayes Bergner, Blalie, Claycomb, Hersey, '~"~tenner; nays none. Carried.
Moved by Bei°gner seconded by Blake that the Recorder be instructed to draw ,Liss
{ Harkins a ~srarrant for X300.00 in payment for the supplies purchased and that the list
be adu.ed to the inventory. Carried unanimously.
Fire Chief Baughman presented the request of T.L.Po~Frell for permission to erect
a number of garages on A Street. As~the garages would not be fireproof and would conflict
with the ordinance governing the construction of b~:ildings within the fire limits no action was taken.
Tie matter of repairing or vacating part of Stravrberry Lane and of installing additional
9 street lights times referred to the Street and Electric Light Cor:~mittees for investigation.
The ~~~~ayor asked: that he be granted permission to put on a dog catcher. roved by
Bergner seconded 'oy W~'enner that the Mayor be granted permission to employ a dog catcher and establish a dog pound. Carried.
A proposed contract between the Balfour-Gutherie Co and the City of Ashland providing
for the extension of the water service to said company's property was read. It was moved
by Blake seconded by Claycomb that the ~~.ayor and Recorder be authorized to sign ~a~id
contract and that it be approved. Carried.
Request of Councilman Claycomb for a light in the alley back of his garage was re-
10 (erred to the Electric Light Committee with power to act.
The Fire Chief and. Chief of Police ~Frere instructed to investigate the complaints
11 regarding incinerators and to report to the council.
The :r'aayor reported on his trip to Salem stating that all bills objectionable to the City had been ti~rithdra~rn. He also reported interviewing the
District Forester at Portland
regarding the ~'~ater shed bill. Ise said the Forestry Department had already communicated
with the authorities at ~~ashington D.C. recommending that the bill be not passed.
The council next proceeded to consider a proposed city ordinance entitled r' An
ordinance granting a right of way to the Oregon and California Railroad Company, across
"A" Street in the Gity of Ashland, Oregon, whereby said Company may extend its present warehouse spur or side track ~n Ashland yards westerly to Lot 5,
