Presen ~~~,yor Thornton; Bergner, Blake, Hersey, Wenner; absent Clayco~ab, Taylor. I+anutes of the meeting of Feb. 5th ~~~rere read and approved as read. Bills O.K'd by the Finance, amounting to `25.00, were presented. It~Iotion mad.L and seconded that said bills be allo~~red. Carried. Councilman Hersey reported that he and I~lir. Claycomb had lcoked~ over~~Strawberry Dane and could see no reason why it should be vacated. Councilman Hersey also brought up the matter of purchasing a Detector for locating raaio trouble, stating that the approximate cost of the apparatus ~~rould. be X235.00. It was moved by Bergner seconded by Blake that the Chairman of the Electric bight Committee ►z be authorized to buy a detector. The vote eras ws fo1lo~Ars: Ayes Bergner, Blake, Horsey, `~~lenner; nays none. Carried. Councilman Taylor entered the room and took his seat. Councilman Taylor stated that the fire Department is in need of additional fire hose. It was moped by Bergner seconded by Blake that the Fire Committee be authorized to u: purchase 500 feet of fire hose at an approxin~,te cost of X1.40 per fcot. The vote was as follows: Ayes Bergner, Blake, Hersey, Taylor, ~~enner; nays none. Carried. 13 fir. Blake reported that the grater service has been extended to the Balfour Gutherie property on Nevada Street at a cost of X159.41. The cost of repairing the sewer mains was reported to be X529.98. k l The ~aspital lease v~ras presented. It was moved by Bergner seconded by Blake that f'`' the ',Mayor and Recorder be authorized to sign the same when the clause covering the -fay- m~nt of additional rerstal shall have been inserted. Carried unanimously. The Chairmen of the Fire Commit~ee and Police Department ti~rere instructed to ~vork out ~or~1e ,plan of taking care of the incinerators and to ma~e~~ their reco~:~mendations to the ~ council. Councilman Hersey stated that he trras not yet ready to make recommendations regarding the matter of buying a truck for the Street Depart~:.lent. Plo.n~ and specifications for the proposed I;~.ckelson Memorial Fountain ~~rere presented by the I4~ayor. It vas moved by '~~1eiLner seconded by Bergner that the Administratrix of the I~sckelson Estate be granted permission to erect the fountain on the Zibrary lot corner the exact position to be designated by the council. Engineer ,dal~er reportea on the progress of g ng The council next proceeded to consider an ordinance entitled " An ordinance granting a right of way to the Oregon and California Railroad Corclpany, across "A" Street in the City of Ashland, Oregon, tigrhereby said company ray extend its ;resent warehouse spur or side track in Ashland. yards ~Fresterly to I~ot 5, Block 22." The ordinance having been read the second time roll call was orde~~~ed cn its adoption. The vote eras as follows: Ayes- Bergner, Blake, Hersey, Taylor, ~Aderrner; nays none. Thereupon the ~.Iayor declared City Ordinance 1o.~adopted. ~ ; The matter of refunding P.C.Garrett X30.18 erroneously collected by the Sheriff was discussed. It eras moved by ~Jenner ueconded ~y Bergner that the refund be allo~Yed and the description of the property changed and the lien assessed against the proper party. Carried. The 1~ayor stated that the Ashland Hotel Company had bee~1 granted permission to pro- teed with the ~~rork of repairing and remodeling the hotel, said ~~rork to be done in accord- $nce ~~rith the fire regulations.
