Present A~~yor Thornton; Councilmen Bergner, Blake, Claycomb, Hersey, '~'G.yler, Ydenner; absent none. <i 4 ~~~inutes of the meetings of June 4th and 5th t~rere read and approved as read. Councilman Tayler reported that he had authorized the uy~chase of arts for the re air P p p of the ambulance. The matter of having reports on the number of ambulance trips eras referred to the Chair~~an of the Fird Committee. The council discussed the advisibility of emptying the dam. ~iis matter was left to the City Engineer and ~yater Superintendent to regulate. P>~oved by Claycomb seconded by zayler that the Street Department be authorized to advertise far bids on the several sizes of crushed rock and sand, far such amounts as may be needed by the various departments during the next six months. Carried. ~n <t~ Councilman "rlenner reported that final payments had been made on the properties pur- chased from the City by the Carson-Fo~rler Zulber Co. and the Ashland Lumber Cc,~mpany, ~ He also presented a proposed agree~~ent between the City and C. W. Cox for the purchase of Lots 20 and ?,1, Block S, Railroad Addition► known as the Roby Estate. ~~oved by Bergner seconded by Claycomb that the Realty Committee be granted authority to close the deal with ~~s. Cox and ~ayor abd Recorder be a~~thvrized to sign the agreement. Carried unanimously. Dr. Blake reported ~n offer of X500 from Sylvester Patterson far the Deardorff tract on North ~~~ain Street, owned by the City. No action eras taken. On motion of Tayler seconded by Claycomb ~~~r. Sehv,artzfager, residing at 120 Seventh Street, was granted free water to Jan. 1, 1930. Dr. Blake reported that he had investigated the complaint regarding the Smith Chicken ranch but that he did not find it in bad condition. Dr. Blake also reported that he had advised the Park Board that he would meet ~fith them to discuss the r~latter of repairing the Butler- ~erozzi Fountain. So far no meeting had been called. ~~ir. Peterson, representing the Ashland Baseball Club addressed the council statin g that a Carnival Company had made arrangements to sho~rr under the auspi.cies of the Club, and asked that the City grant them a license. Iy~oved by Claycomb seconded by Bergner that the City grant the Carnival Co. a license and remit same to the Ball Team. Carried. 4 Request of the Ashland Lumber Co. for permission to install an underground gas storage tank was read. a~~vved by Bergner seconded by '~'~enner that said permit be granted with the understanding that the tank be installed in compliance with the fire prdinances. Carried. On motion of ti~enner seconded by Tayler Frank Jordan was granted permission to re- model the front of the Detrick Building on North P~~~ain Street. Loved by Claycomb seconded by Blake that C. ~U. Cramer be pat.d his bill of X111.35 for putting in cement sidewalk in front of the Riegel property on North ~~ain Street, j the General Fund~to advance the money and to be reimbursed when the bonds are sold. Carried unanimously. The council next proceeded to consider an ordinance e:~titled "Ordinance vacati a portion of Glenview Drive or Park Street in the City of Ashland, Jackson County, Oregon, being that portion of said street lying north of Lot No. 24 of Summit Addition and south of said street as the same is now actually graded and laid out on the ground, and lying between the east and west lines of said Lot No. 24 of Summit Addition extended northvrard to said Glenview Drive or Park Street, same being mare particularly described therein." The ordinance eras read the firs~~ time only. The council next proceeded to consider a resolution entitled "Resolution expressing the appreciation of the ~~~a,yor and Common Council of the City of Ashland for the services rendered by C. A. ~dalone, Superintendent of the Electric Zight Department of the City of Ashland, and expressing the regret of the City Ad~linistration at the loss of such services by the City of Ashland. b~Otion was made and seconded that said resolution be adopted and a copy thereof sent to ~s. ~=alone. Carried unanimously. Councilman Bergner was requested to work out a suitable book for recording the loca- tion of the sewer Y's in the City. ~1. Brigs offered the City the ~ioekett Tract in the Canyon, vrhich he has accuired, for the sum of 1200.00. The tract comprises about 60 acres and lies just below the Lower Intake. 0n motion of Bergner seconded by Claycomb this matter eras referred to the ~`ayox ~ and the Chairmen of the '~?ater, Electric Light and Realty Committees, for investigation. ~ On motion, the council adjourned subject to call. or Attest,  eeor er.
