Present b~ayor u ~ - a ry t Thornton, Cou.ncilmen Bergner, B~.ake, Claycomb, ~~ersey, T~y1er, ~~enner, been nine, ,e I~Iinutes of the previous meeting ~Arere read and approved as read. Report of qtr. Wauchope for the month of June, 1929, was read and, on motion, accepted and. ordered placed on file. Bills O.K'd by the Finance Committee, amounting to x;7,777.41, were read in total amount cnly. Motion was made and seconded that said bills be a1lotiAled and warrants ordered drawn in payment the~~eof. The vote was as ~ollotifirs : Ayes Bergner, B~.ake, Clayco~,b, Hersey, Tayler, Wenner; nays none. Carried. k" Petitisn signed by four citizens, asking that the council require the removal of the poultry in the rear of the Variety Store on North I~Iain Street,was read. The I?;iayor stating that the poultry had been removed, no action was taken on the petition. Petitions signed by twenty-five petitioners residing in various parts of the City, asking that the council take immediate action to permanently correct the conditions eirst- ~ ing at the Smith Poultry Farm on Oak Street was read. After some discussion the Chief of E Police was instructed to inspect the Poultey Farm every ~~onday morning. ~ A communication from E. 0. Adamson, regarding Public Liability and Property Damage policy for the City of Ashland, covering cars, trucks and road equipment, vas next read. y ~ On motion: the Finance Committee and City Attorney were instructed to bring in their resom- mendations at the next meeting. The Finance Committee submitted a report on the dirbursements of the various depart- menu to June 26th. i I~~flr. 'r~~auchope submitted an estimate of the cost of improving the street lighting on ~°~inburn ~~day and Granite Streets. No act~.on was taken. Bill of the Postal-Telegraph Cable Co. for the City's portion of the cost of con- structing joint pole line in the City of AshlU.nd, betti~Jeen a point r~5 feet west of Oak St. ~ in the alley between I1~~.in Street and B Street and the southeast corner of 8th St. ahd Last Fain Street, amounting to X996.20, was presented. ~~oved by Bergner seconded by Blake that said bill be allo1rred and warrant ordered drawn in payment thereof. Carried unanimously. Councilman Cla comb re orted on the street cy~ossin s needed in the easterl y p g y portion of the City. He stated that the cost of construction would be about X40.00 each. and recomm- ended that their construction be postponed. After some discussion it was moved by Wenner seconded by Bergner that I,~Zr. Claycomb's suggestion be followed out regarding postponement cf j construction. Carried. i Camp Ground The City Attorney outlined the provisianons of the lease reeer~tly granted I,~Tr. Kissinger. i~~Ioved by Hersey seconded by Brenner that the action of the Ik~ayor and Recorder in signing the lease be ratified. Carried. The ti`rater Supt reported that there is a farr:ily living on Roca Street that have no see,°~1er connection nor septic tank. On motion, the r'rater Supt. was instructed to notify them to put in a s~ptie tank at once. i On r.~otion Councilman Taylor tiaras authorized ~o put up a temporary sign, approximately 3' x 3' to mark the Zithia Fountain on the Plaza. The council next proceeded to consider a proposed ordinance entitled "Ordinance levying special benefit assessments in the matter of the construction of cement sidewalks,; curbs and glz~ters, in Sidewalk, Curb Gutter District No. 4." Thn ordinance having been i read the first time, on oration, the rules ~<<ere suspended, six voting in favor thereof, and the ordinance was passed to the second reading. having been read the fecond time, roll call tiaras ordered on its adoption. The vote eras as follows; AT-es- Bergner, Blake, Claycomb, Ixersey, Tayler, ~~~~enner; nags none. Thereupon the ':ayor declared City Ordinance No. 871 adopted. The council next proceeded to consider an ordinance entitled "Ordinance vacating a portion of Glenview Drive or Park Street in the City of Ashland, Jackson County, Oregon, being that portion of said street lying I~~orth of Lot No. 24 of Summit Addition and South of said street as the same is now actually graded and laid out on tree ground, and lying bet~Freen the East and crest lines of said yot Igo. 24 of Summit Addition extended Northward to said Glenvie~r Drive or Park Street, same being more particularly descz~ibed the~wein." The ordinance having be:~n read the first timme, on motion, the rules ;:ere suspended, six voting in favor thereof and the ordinance was passed to the second res.ding. Having been read the second time, roll call was order°ed on its adoption. The vote ~R~as as follows Ayes- Bergner, B1aT~e, Clayc~omb, Mersey, Tayler, akrtinner; na~~s none.
