The council met in regular session at '7:30 o'clock P.~. on trlis date. present Mayor Thornton; Councilmen Bergner: Blake, Clayco~~b, rlersey, ~'~enner; absent Tayler. Bills O.lr'l by the Finance Committee, amounting to ~~;,307.15, ~vere read in total . amount only. ~.otion leas made and seconded that said bills 'ae allot.red and warrants ordered dra~rrn in payment thereof. The vote ~~~as as follovrs: Ayes Bergner, Bla'~e, Cla~rcomb, 3 Mersey, ~"~leriner; nays none. C~.rried. ~3 Engineer ~'.'alker reported that he ~~.ad surveyed the prorosed nevr pipe line in the ~ Canyon and estimated the cost thereof to be ;;25,000 or less. After some discussion it vras r.~oved by Cla~rcovrb seconded by Blake that the City proceed ~vith the laying of the nevr pipe from the dam to the potiver house and that the City Recorder be instructed to advertise for bids for the pipe ~~~reldel and in place, according to the plans and speci- ficotions of the Bngineer, the bids to be opened at S o'clock ?'.I~~., Tuesday, the lst day of October, 1929. The vote eras ~~s follo~;~s: t'~~res Bergner, Blake, Claycomb, Kersey, ~'~enner; nays none. Carried. The council again considered the bid submitted for 1"urnishing crushed rock and gravel, It eras moved by Bergner seconded by ~'~tenner that O.S.Easterling's bid for furnishing san~~~ and gravel to June 30, 1931, be accepted at the prices submitted. Carried unanimously. ~~oved by Bergner seconded by -;lake that "Is1o Reverse Turns" signs be placed on all street intersections bet~veen Gresham and Melman Streets, including both streets. Carried. 1~'s. Olsen addressed the council reeo~~ending that a larger ~vater main be laid to I,.Fountain ~~ie~v Cemetery and that a sprinkling system be installed, at an approximate cost ~ of ~~2.000.00. It tivas moved by Berner seconded by Flake that the Cemetery and '~y'ater Committees be instructed to proceel vrith the installation of said vrater main and sprinkl- ing system, the expense thereof to be borne bar the Cemeter~T ~~'und. Carried unanirl~ously. _ ~ The City Attorney reported that fir. °,!attie Shave had filed a verbal claim for r~~150.00 for the` five feet of land on 'iC" Street apprppriat~d by the City and for vrhich she has not been paid. ~~oved bar Claycomb seconded by Mersey that the City pay i;~r. ~havr ~~150.00 for saki land as reayuested~ from the Street ~~'und. Carried unanimously, f ~'h~ .claim of ';ss. Tlolman for damages to her ~lerrace broperty caused by sand ~~.~ashed from~t~'~ 'd'itch vros referred to the City Attorney ~"or adju~trnent. The council next proceeded to consider a comrzunication frorfl the Ashland Public Library Board in ~vhich they ask that the ~ finance Committee be authorized to ~vork with them ~ to remedy the heating conditions at the ~.~~brary. It vr~~.s moved by hake seconded.. by slenner that this rrl,tter be referz~ed to the finance Committee ~vith po~ver to act. C~.rried. The hour of 8 o'clock having arrived the council proceeded to open and. consider the ~ bids submit~ee for furnishing and vrelding the 24" steel po~~rer pipe line in ~`~~shland Cen.yon. ~ Bids vrere submitted by the ~~'Jestern Pipe Steel Company o~ California Beall Pipe cv~ Tabk Corporation ,Portland, Oregon, and The tee, Pipe Tare Company of Oregon. , t~ The proposals having been read it eras moved by j,enner seconded by Blake that they be referred to the ~~~lec'~ric light supt. and Cit~,~ ~~~ngineer foz° re-checking and recornrnen- lotions.
