Allen Ashland Hotel Dispenser No. 24 Loomis ~ Tdelson 215 Fourth Street Dispenser No. 25 Loomis ~ Nelson 215 Fourth Street Retailer Bids to furnis~r the City of Ashland with gasoline for' a period of one ye~.r were received from the following: The Standard Oil Company The Union Gil Company The Shell Oil Company As all bids were at the same price, :3ergner moved that these bids be referred to the Light Cor~rnittee with power to act. Seconded by ~~enner. Carried. On motion, the council adjourned to meet at the call of the l~~ayor. Absent Councilr~ Claycomb. k The purpose of the meeting was to consider a re uest from the Chamber of Commerce for funds for the production of a travelogue by means of~mation pictures to be produces on the screen in every part of the United States and the ~~~~orld's Fair at Chicago advertising this sectian of Oregon. Paul I~icDonald, Tom Simpson, president; and Tom Cunning, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce spoke in favor of the project. The proposition teas discusses thorough- ly, but no action ta~en on account o' the amount oi' funds re~luired. The subject of meeting witrl tree Highway Commission, and having the State widen tree High- s way from the north limits of tree City to Coolidge Street was discusUed. T~oved by ~~denner that Mr. Green and fir. McClure, City Attarney attend the meeting of the Commission at Eugene and Salem and try and have this work of widening the street done by the State. The minutes o~' the last meetings, April 18 and 21st were approved. f Reports of the Recorder and auditing committee were read and accepted s.nd ordered placed on file. Bills amounting to X2788.81, 4hTed by the i'inance committee were read as to total amount anly and ordered paid. On motion by v~enner, the bill for X65.00 as an additional months salary to '~1m. iyi. 3rigg~s as City Attorney was referred to tree City Attorney 1`0~~ recommendation. The bill for 582.3 frorfl file ~-+ater Department ag~~inst the Sewer l~'und for the 1932 operwtion of sewer and septic tani~s was upon motion by `~~Tenner ordered tram;°~'erred from the Sever Fund as far as the balance on hand would permit ~~nd the rer~ainder aU it came in from taxes.  Moved by Bergner that the X50.00 donation to the Chamber of Commerce be transferred from the Light Fund to the Publicity and Chautauqua Fund as a Loan. Carried. The application of 0. H. Rose to have the records changed to show that there was no street in rear of nis residence on Hillcrest was on notion by '~7enner°efez~red to the City Attorney and City Engineer or recommendations. ~~II fi'he application by Mrs. Fridegar to have the City grant free lights and water to sirs. J. B. Renton was referred to the 'y'later superintendent for investigation and report, on motion by 'y~enner. The application of James Hendrix for a position with the street department was on motion by ~~enner referred to the Street Committee. The a lication of H. H. Palmer to construct a sewer of approximately b50 feet on 1-Ashland pp Street at his o~vn expense was on motion by Ta~~lol° referred to the City t~ttorney and ~++ater Sup- erintendent wit~l po~s~er to act. Moved by Claycomb that the men employed uy the City to con- struct this sewer be paid in cash (in order that good men be provided, instead of entirely delin:iuent labor. Seconded by Taylor, carried. Moved by Claycomb that the purchase of City d'~ater Bonds quoted considerably below par on the market be referred to the Finance Committee for report. Seconded by Taylor. Carried. -The City Attorney made a report of his collections to date indicating about 5150 in cash and X500 in notes had been secured. ' The City Attorney reported on his trip north in contacting the State Highway Com.~nission and read a resolution on the Siskiyou Highway. ~~Ioved b~j Claycomb that the resolution be adopter and the City Attorney forward a copy to the State Highway Commission and our represent- atives in Congress at '~~ashington, D. C., seconded by Lininger, Carried. The City At~orney mentioned the necessity for immediate contact ~vith the Chambers of Commerce of the Cities north as far as Eugene in order to get their support on the Siskiyou project. Moved by Claycomb that the City Attorney and I~rlr. Green of the Ashland Tidings be instruct- - ed to make the trip north, contacting all Chambers o' Commerce and getting their support for the federal appropriation for the Siskiyou Highway project. Seconded and Carried. The subject of a complete change in the accounting system for the City of Ashland was dis- Q cussed thoroughly. The necessity fol~ a modern systel~n to replace the present antiquated method of keeping city records was pointed out by Bergner anci`~~lenner and the Recorder. Bergner suggested that instead of engaging an outside firm of accountants to change the system at a very large fee, that t~Ir. a~enner and himself' vr~~uld assist the Recorder irr making this change at monthly salary oz' X25.00 each per month. It ~~~as trlouh~ it w.~uld re wire several months. I~~oved ~by Claycomb that Berene~~ and '~i~enner assist the Recorder in installing a new, modern system of accounting. Seconded by Lininger. Carried. Moved by Taylor that .the maintenance of the electric sign be turned over to the City Light Department. Seconded oy Lininger. Carried. Letter from ~~m. iii. Briggs °elative to expenses to attend the meeting of t:~,e League of Oregon Cities wc~s on motion by Taylor, seconded by Claycomb, laid on the table. Qn motion by 'ddenner, the report of the Committee of Citizens on the Chautauqua Building was accepted, the Conunittee dismissed an~a a vote of thanks extended, Seeondeu 'oy Taylor. Jones, 349 Mountain Ave., who was unable to work on account of stroke of paralysis, for free lights and water was referred to the :'later Committee for report. 4n motion by Taylor, the fixing of light rate for the Dougherty Grocery was referred to the Light Committee with power to act. Carried. Remonstrance of nlrs George C. apencer, 691 Oak St., against pigs belonging to neighbors was referred to the Police Department.
