COUNCIL POSITION 6 SELECTION PROCESS
(Proposals for Council consideration)
Objective: At least three votes for one candidate in a final vote on no more than 2 candidates.
Decision Factors:
• responses to questions in the application;
• breadth and depth of experience related to issues of importance to Ashland citizens;
• capacity to listen well, think independently, disagree constructively, compromise, and collaborate;
• other factors deemed relevant by Council members.
Balloting Scenarios:
The scenarios below are alternative "strawman" proposals to facilitate consideration of how to proceed to fill Council Position 6. The
Council could modify any of the scenarios or take another approach altogether. An important distinction between the 3 options is that
Scenario B would narrow the field of candidates on February 7, instead of February 21 as proposed in Scenarios A and C. The final 3
steps in Scenarios B and C are identical.
SCENARIO A
On February 21, a motion could made and seconded to appoint one of the applicants without any other balloting process at all. If the
motion failed to obtain a majority vote, a motion could be made to appoint a different applicant or, alternatively, a motion could be made to
proceed with Scenario B or Scenario C.
