The project aims to create a comprehensive database of these trees using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, providing the city with accurate shapefiles and aerial imagery of the forest stand. Old and new debris will also be identified and physically removed from the Ashland watershed. • Objectives a) Conduct aerial assessments to accurately identify, locate, and classify dead and dying Douglas Fir trees—number and type of classes to be determined between Rogue Reconnaissance (RR) and Chris Chambers. b) Create a database of identified trees using GIS technology. c) Provide the City of Ashland with Shapefiles and high-resolution aerial orthomosaics of the forest stand. d) Identify, locate, and remove debris from abandoned campsites • Deliverables The project deliverables will include, but are not limited to: a) Point shapefile - three classes: Live (green, no signs of stress), Dead (entire tree with no needles, or all brown), and Declining (signs of stress and browning).Whenever feasible, a distinction will be made between Douglas Fir and other tree species. In areas with high vegetation/canopy density, terrain slope, or variable lighting conditions, species classification accuracy may drop below 100%. Species identification in'dense forests requires advanced image analysis techniques, which can produce valuable and highly accurate data. Still, variables such as those listed above may reduce accuracy in densely forested areas. b) Forest attributes delivered by Excel spreadsheet and attribute tables in point/polygon shapefiles: lat/long, live, dead, and declining. Individual trees will be isolated and individually identified whenever feasible. In areas of high vegetation/canopy density, trees of the same vitality class may be grouped into clusters..', Rogue Reconnaissance LLC 2 Rogue Reconnaissance LLC Ashland,OR Watershed Forestry Survey • c) Polygon shapefile - canopy symbolized into three classes: Live, dead, and declining of the entire study area d) Comprehensive report PDF - includes charts, graphs, and heat map of live, dead, and declining Douglas fir. b) Aerial Orthomosaics: High-resolution RGB and Multispectral (RGB, near-infrared, and red-edge)TIFF files • A `t ...r `(,'° 't.' The deliverables, including shapefiles and aerial orthomosaics, will be ready for submission to the City of Ashland by late July. The project timeline is subject to change depending on the start date. Resources The following resources will be utilized to ensure project goals are met: • Two,FAA Part 107 Pilots for UAS operations. . • • Uncrewed Aircraft System Pilot(UASP) to oversee flight operations. • Uncrewed Aircraft System Data Specialist(UASD) to manage data acquisition and processing. • GIS Specialist to handle the GIS software, data analysis, and shapefile generation. • Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) equipped with Multispectral and RGB payloads. • ESRI ArcMap Pro;Metashape, and Global Mapper Pro software for data processing. • Dump trailer, trash bags, and proper personal protective equipment(PPE) Evaluation and Success Criteria The project's success will be measured by achieving the following: a)Accurate identification of dead and dying Douglas Fir trees within the project area. b) Providing a clean and organized shapefile database with comprehensive attribute data. c) Delivering high-resolution ortho-imagery showcasing the'distribution of identified trees. By meeting these objectives, the project will contribute valuable information to the City of Ashland, aiding in managing and conserving its forested areas.
