Home My WebLink About2018-03-07 Historic MIN ASHLAND HISTORIC COMMISSION Meeting Minutes March 7, 2018 Community Development/Engineering Services Building – 51 Winburn Way – Siskiyou Room CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Shostrom called the meeting to order at 6:04 pm in the Siskiyou Room at the Community Development and Engineering Offices located at 51 Winburn Way, Ashland OR 97520. Commissioners Present: Council Liaison: Whitford Rich Rosenthal Emery Staff Present: Skibby Fotini Kaufman; Planning Dept. Shostrom Regan Trapp; Secretary Giordano Commissioners Absent: Leonard Von Chamier Swink APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Whitford motioned to approve minutes for February 7, 2018. Emery seconded. Voice vote. AYES, Whitford, Emery, Skibby. Motion passed. Giordano and Shostrom abstain. PUBLIC FORUM: There was no one in the audience wishing to speak. COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT: Rosenthal gave Council Liaison report. Items discussed were:  Councilor Darrow resigned at the last City Council meeting. The applicant pool has been narrowed to 3 applicants, Tonya Graham, George Kramer, and Jackie Bachman. One of these 3 will be voted in next meeting. th  Officer Malcus William’s memorial service will be at Ashland High School on March 17 at 11am.  Transportation network companies (Uber/Lyft) will be coming to council in April. COMMISSION ITEMS NOT ON AGENDA: Steve Ennis to discuss proposed changes to Pioneer Hall. Steve Ennis, Architect, 1108 E. Jackson St. Medford address the commission about this project. The roof structure is unstable and not able to hold a hefty snow load and is showing a deep sag from the plate line to the roof ridge. They have received authorization to get some construction cost estimates and will go to city council for approval. If the building is used as a shelter an additional cost for fire sprinklers and fire alarms will have to be added. Mr. Ennis went on to say that the chimney would easy fall in a seismic event so that will need some structural repair. Mr. Ennis will do his best to match the shape of the chimney. The commissioners were in agreement that it looks great. Skibby to look and see if he has any photos of the chimney. NEW ITEMS:  Review board schedule.  Project assignments for planning actions.  Historic Preservation Week – Events schedule & nominations list review – The commissioners went through the list of properties and decided which ones they will look at this month. Kaufman will send an email to the commission on whom is assigned to which properties. Skibby to conduct a tour of Ashland Cemetery on Friday May 18, 2018 at 2PM. DISCUSSION ITEMS:  Ashland Canal project – Shostrom and Emery to represent the Historic Commission at the meeting on April 2, 2018.
