Members Terry Skibby, Joan Steele, Vava Bailey, Jay Leighton, Keith Chambers, Dale Shostrom and Gary Foll met at 4:00 p.m. at the Ashland Springs Hotel for an updated tour of the progress that has been made. Also in attendance were Associate Planner Mark Knox and Secretary Sonja Akerman. Historian George Kramer conducted the tour. Following the tour, the Commissioners had dinner at Pilaf Restaurant and reconvened at the Hillah Temple for discussions. Member Kay Maser joined the meeting at this time. The first item discussed was the number of members. Knox stated he wanted input from the Commissioners about changing the number from nine to seven. After talking about the advantages and disadvantages, five members out of eight voted to keep the membership at nine. In discussing meeting procedures, all members were in favor of having more productive and efficient meetings. Steele moved and Leighton seconded to follow the same process as the Planning Commission as outlined in the handout entitled "Public Hearing Agenda". The motion was unanimously passed. The Commission would also like to have something from staff prior to the regular meetings that would red flag certain areas of concern for planning actions. The following nominations for officers were made: Chair - Terry Skibby, Vice Chair - Dale Shostrom, Council Liaison - Keith Chambers, and Planning Commission Liaison - Gary Foll. The vote will be formalized at the August 2 meeting. The Commission then looked at a concept that was submitted for nine condos on a lot that fronted on both Scenic Drive and Rock Street. Following is a list of comments/concerns:  Directional expression with neighborhood  Mass and scale with neighborhood  Need eaves  Don't need so many huge windows (too contemporary)  Solid roof line too bulky on Scenic side……should be broken up  Concern about the columns  Need more sense of entry  Need porches  Need elevations showing what the buildings will look like from Rock Street and Scenic Drive  Density seems too great for that area  Conglomeration of architectural styles - need to simplify  The streetscape needs to conform (square footage wise) more with houses in close proximity  Concern about height in comparison to adjacent houses  Concerns about volume and scale The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
