B ASHLAND PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES - DRAFT November 16, 2018 CALL TO ORDER: Chair Friend called the meeting to order at 8:03 a.m. in the Siskiyou Room, 51 Winburn Way. Commissioners Present: Staff Present: Dana Bussell Fotini Kaufman, Assistant Planner Sandra Friend Richard Newman Allison Renwick Andy Stallman Stanley Smith Absent Members: Council Liaison: Thomas Fuhrmark Stephen Jensen INTRODUCTIONS Jeff Phillips introduced himself and provided his background as a curator and art administrator in Los Angeles. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioners Bussell/Newman m/s to approve the minutes of the Regular meeting October 19, 2018. Voice Vote: all AYES. Motion passed. PUBLIC FORUM - None COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT Councilor Jensen provided an update on the elections, the Uber debate, taxi certification and recent changes to overnight shelters in Ashland. Pioneer Hall would no longer provide overnight shelter but would serve meals six days a week. PROJECT UPDATES Allison Historic Markers Project - now Marking Ashland Places (MAP) Project Commissioner Renwick explained the Joint Committee chose five sites to place plaques in the sidewalk. They had started the request for proposal (RFP) process. Commission comment suggested publicizing in the Ashland Gallery and meeting with the Parks Commission regarding the Hub sculpture. Other comments suggested using COR-TEN steel for the plaques and limiting the number of concept designs. Council Liaison comment suggested a press release. The Joint Committee would add time to vet plaque design. PAC WORK PLAN Commission-Chair Friend reminded everyone of the Strategic Planning Meeting on November 30, 2018. The meeting could run to 3:00 p.m. Ashland Public Arts Commission November 16, 2018 Page 1 of 2 DISCUSSION ITEMS The Commission discussed covering the electric boxes in the Theater Corridor. Comment did not want to detract from the Velocity sculpture. The feedback regarding the sculpture had mostly been positive.
