Council Liaison Update
Lemhouse congratulated the PAC on its process to commission public art for the Theater
Corridor. He noted that the Council was complimentary of the PAC and supports the artist,
Gordon Huether, and the piece. The State legislature approved legislation that allows
communities to cull urban deer. Culling deer in Ashland will likely be a discussion in the months
to come. The Council will hear the recommendation of the ad hoc City hall Advisory Committee
on October 17. He spoke briefly about the Senior Center and reminded the group that the Senior
Center decision is under the purview of the Parks and Recreation Commission, a separately
elected body. He informed the group that City Council study session will be held in the City
Council Chambers, rather than the Siskiyou Room beginning in October. Meetings are from 5:30
to 7:30. Lemhouse invited Paula Brown into the room and introduced her to the group as the new
Public Works Director and he reminded the group about the upcoming volunteer picnic at Oak
Knoll.
Gateway/Threshold Update
The project is on schedule. The artist, Susan Zoccola will travel to Ashland to determine
placement of footings and lighting.
Theater Corridor/Velocity
The Council approved Velocity which was chosen by the Selection Panel and recommended by
the Public Art Commission. The artist will submit the construction documents to the City for
approval. Installation is planned for spring 2018.
Review of Goals Implementation
The PAC adopted the Goals and Strategies as guidelines for the next three years. Friend will
make minor edits identified during discussion and send the final document to the PAC and to
Lemhouse.
Street Painting
1
The PAC would like the opportunity to review and comment on proposed street painting designs.
Seltzer will request the public works department add PAC review to the street painting approval
process.
Other
Seltzer reported that she has received a request for a utility box “wrap” and asked if the PAC
wants to resume discussion and process to “wrap” utility boxes. The prototype of a utility wrap
utility box is located at the top of the Guanajuato stairs on Granite Street. PAC agreed to revisit
the topic and Fuhmark offered to develop the template. Seltzer will send him information
gathered for the prototype.
