Agenda Changes The Chair postponed the Krista mural discussion to the February meeting and removed the review of AMC proposed changes due to new direction from the Mayor. Council Liaison Update Council Liaison Commission appointments will remain the same until a new City Councilor is appointed. Lemhouse hopes to remain as the liaison to the Public Art Commission but it may change. Council is in the process of hiring a Director of Finance and eventually a City Administrator. Fire Chief John Karns is currently serving as the Interim City Administrator. Council is committed to Ashland’s long time practice of encouraging infill and referred the group to the City Council December 19 study session to learn more. Council heard the options for a new/remodeled City Hall and intend to form an ad hoc committee to evaluate the options. Update on Gordon Huether The Theater Corridor artist will arrive on Thursday, February 23. He will meet with the PAC at a special meeting on Friday morning February 24 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, tour the site, meet with representatives from OSF and regarding the Thistle Building and meet with the public Friday evening at the library from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The PAC discussed the format for the special meeting and agreed to use a similar format to the one used with the designer of the entry signs. PAC will develop a handout for the evening meeting. Update on Library poster and response The PAC expressed appreciation to Tom Fuhrmark and his design of the poster at the library, the smaller versions posted at both ends of the Theater Corridor and placement of posters at City Hall, the Grove, the Nature Center and the session center. Bussell will collect the written responses from the library and deliver to City Hall. Seltzer will scan the comments and make them available for the February regular meeting. 1 Update on AMC proposed changes Friend explained the Mayor has directed staff to develop a report stating what the PAC and HC agree upon, what the PAC and HC disagree upon and those issues that are policy related rather than developing ordinance language. Staff will work on this report and provide the information to the PAC. Public Art Brochure The PAC expressed appreciation for Barry and Katherine Thalden’s offer to design, distribute and pay for the development of a guide and map of Ashland’s public art and agreed that without their involvement the project could not be done. They asked that the PAC mission and copyright not be included in the final brochure. Friend will communicate the PAC’s appreciation to the Thalden’s, request the mission and copyright not be included and offer to proofread the final draft. Watershed Art Bussell reported on the progress of Watershed Art placement of artist Rycheck’s approved piece. The footprint of the water treatment plant has not been determined and it may be necessary to determine a different location for the Rycheck piece.
