piece in June (pending approval by the City Council. Bussell suggests a firm deadline for
installation date be included in the contract.
Mural Application Presentation
Pam Marsh of the Ashland Emergency Food Bank introduced donors Katharine and Barry
Thalden and artist Denise Baxter. Marsh has submitted an application to have a mural painted
on the exterior of the AEFB building. The mural designed by Baxter will reflect the seasons
and the landscape of the Rogue Valley.
Baxter presented her rendering to the Commission and explained she will use students to help
execute the piece. The finished mural will measure 18’ x 52’. Baxter expects to begin the
project in June and complete the work within four weeks.
This is the first time a mural application has come to the PAC using the mural guidelines
developed by the PAC last July. Both the applicant and the artist commented on the ease and
professionalism of the process.
When asked about the life of the mural, Baxter replies 25 years or possibly longer. The
mural is on the north side of the building, will be covered with a clear UV coat which will
protect it from fading.
PAC members commented on the beauty of the design and the colors and agree it is great to
have public art at that end of town.
M/S to approve the mural as presented and to make a recommendation to the City Council for
approval (Friend/Hepford. Approved.
Calle Boxes
Two of the painted electric utility boxes located on the Calle have been removed due to
construction. Parks would like to contract with the same artist to paint the replacement boxes
once Calle construction is complete.
Seltzer will contact the artist to see if she is willing to do the work. If not, the PAC will issue
a Call for Artists/RFP.
Gateway Island
Seltzer informed the committee she has received 12 submissions and will send them and
others that come in, to the PAC members along with a worksheet to be used to evaluate. All
agreed the entire April meeting needs to be dedicated to reviewing the submissions. Hepford
suggested Seltzer place the submissions in the PAC dropbox.
Meeting adjourned at 10:00.
