Calle sub-committee Public Art Commission
Present: Hepford, Bussell, Davis, Seltzer (staff)
The group met to discuss securing a sculpture for the pedestal at the top of the Calle Staircase:
either to purchase an existing piece, commission a piece or issue and RFQ/RFP.
The group fine tuned a list, provided by Bussell, of sculpture artists in the Rogue Valley. Bussell
will contact these artists and ask if the subcommittee can visit their studio to determine if the
artists have a suitable piece for purchase and/or if the work of the artist might be suitable for a
direct commission.
Hepford commented on the work of Jesus ? a sculpture artist in Texas and Davis commented,
that despite the great number of artists in the area, there were very few sculpture artists. The
group also discussed the work of Steve Jensen whose two pieces were on display on the Calle
pedestals a number of years ago.
The group agreed that they may not able to fine a piece or sculptor locally and may have to
search beyond the immediate area.
