HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-09-21 Public Arts MIN Minutes Public Art Commission September 21, 2012 Attendance Commissioners: Bussell, Garrington, Pugh, Davis, Capovilla, Seltzer (staff), Lemhouse (Council Liaison) Absent Friend Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 8:1 5 a.m. Approval of Minutes Minutes of the August meeting were approved M/S Bussell/Pugh. Letter to City Attorney and City Recorder The draft letter regarding AMC 2.10.040 was approved M/S Bussell/Garington. Gallery Guide Garrington volunteered to draft the article for the Gallery Guide with emphasis on public art for Fire Station No. 2 and the Plaza. Update Fire Station No. 2 Seltzer, Fire Chief, project manager and contractors for Fire Station No. 2 had a conference call with artist CJ Rench to discuss the pedestal for Open Minded. The pedestal will be 18 inches tall and approximately 4 to 5 feet in circumference. Rench will provide engineering drawings to the contractors within the next four weeks. The cost is estimated at approximately $3,000 to be paid through the public art fund. Plaza Artist Sue Springer presented her concept for public art on the Plaza. The art will be a combination of tile and mosaic in muted blues, greens, and yellows set in a wavy pattern on the face of the seat walls. The concept was approved by the commission M/C Davis/Bussell. Springer will meet with Covey Pardee Landscape architects on Wednesday September 26. The PAC agreed that a direct commission to an artist (Sue Springer) was the only way to meet the city’s timeline for the Plaza project and incorporate the public art installation into the construction documents.
