Mural Proposal
Vanston Shaw, an Ashland resident, addressed the PAC. Shaw lives in the Jasmine Building on
Will Dodge Way and is interested in getting a mural paointed on the retaining wall behind Key
Bank. The wall faces the alley. Shaw reports that preliminary conversations with Key Bank
indicate they are supportive of the project but are not interested in assisting with financing.
The PAC explained that they have been considering that space for a mural for a number of
months and explained the process for public art including getting an art easement from the
property owner, raising funds, the Call for Artists and selection process.
The challenge is getting an estimate of the associated costs including the preperation of the wall
for painting, artists costs, and anti-grafitte coating.
The PAC is developing guidelines for murals and will consider the proposal.
Shaw thanked the commission and indicated he is willing to workon the project and assist with
fundraising.
Draft Call for Artists for Calle
The group reviewed the draft Call for Artists. It was suggested the theme be expanded beyond
‘water’ to natural elements. It was also suggested the criteria must be consistent with the criteria
being developed for all public art projects.
Bussell will modify the draft and prepare it for distribution in January.
AGA Peace Fence article
Edson was thanked for her work on the article. It was suggested she show the article to Anne
DiSalvo, who coordinates articles for the annual guide. Edson will finetune the article and send it
to DiSalvo by December 1.
