Minutes
Public Art Commission
June 18, 2010
Regular Meeting
Attendance:
Commissioners: Bussell, Wynkoop, Edson, Davis Seltzer (staff)
Absent: Pugh, Wilkerson, Lemhouse (council liaison)
Chair Bussell called meeting to order at 8:15 a.m.
Minutes from the May 21 meeting were approved with changes.
Utility Box Update
One new submission was received as a result of extending the RFP deadline. To date,
submissions include 2 for the Plaza box, 3 for the low box on Helman Street and 1
submission for the large box at the corner of Hersey and Helman Streets.
The Commission discussed the overall project and why more artists are not submitting
designs. Discussion included commissioning artists to paint boxes, the stipend, the
quality of submissions. The Commission wondered what to do about the current project
and what to do in the long run. It was agreed to proceed with the current submissions and
to form the selection panel.
Hardesty Memorial
It is unlikely the Parks Commission will agree to place the Hardesty memorial sculpture
in the Japanese Garden of Lithia Park but they may be agreeable to placing the piece in
another Bluebird Park. Alice Hardesty was agreeable to this idea and will make a point
of visiting Bluebird Park the next time she is in town.
Mural Location
Bussell suggested two other locations for possible murals: the post office and the Fordyce
building (Earthly Goods).
Meeting adjourned at 9:45
Next meetings:
Friday, August 20 and Friday, September 17.
