HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-06-20 Public Arts_MIN Notes Public Art Commission June 20, 2008 Regular Meeting Attendance: Commissioners: Markell, Bussell, Longshore, Pugh Seltzer (staff liaison) Absent: Wilkerson, Pugh, Douglas, Hardesty Chair Markell called meeting to order at 8:20 a.m. General discussion regarding grant application to Jackson County Cultural Trust (JCCT) Markell, Longshore and Bussell are drafting a grant application to the JCCT for $1500 for a proposed public art project involving the painting of 7 to 10 utility boxes located on Oak Street, A Street and near the gateway island. Discussion included amount of artist stipend, theme. Seltzer will arrange for a meeting between Dick Wanderscheid , Director of Electric Utilities and the PAC to discuss the project. Markell will meet with contacts at Miller Paints to discuss paint materials and donations. Calle Sculpture Garden Bussell and Pugh will meet to discuss refining the RFP inviting artist to submit sculpture in the Calle. PAC actiipates it will issue the RFP later this year or early January. Loose Ends PAC heard a presentation at the May meeting from Glen Hill regarding his proposed silk road project. Hill requested the PAC support of the project. Due to lack of quorum, PAC could not vote. General discussion indicated support. PAC will need to formally vote on this recommendation at an upcoming meeting.
