Meeting Notes
Public Art Commission
March 21, 2008
Attendance:
Commissioners: Markell, Bussell, Longshore, Seltzer (staff liaison), Hardesty (council liaison)

Chair Markell called meeting to order at 8:20 a.m.
Citizen Issues
Midge and Tom gave an update to the PAC about the progress of the Carol Wheeldon memorial
bench. Markell will draft a letter of support of the project to staff and send copies to the Bike and Ped
Commission and Historic Commission. The letter will include a statement about how the project
meets one of the goals of the PAC.
Gift of Public Art
Seltzer updated the PAC on the council action re: approving the PAC recommendation to accept
Lloyd Haines gift of public art. Staff has put the project “in the queue” and will work with Haines to
secure appropriate permits.
Funding of Public Art
Seltzer advised the PAC that public art funding will be on the Council agenda for April 15 and
clarified some of the funding language submitted to the council.
Economic and Cultural Grant Application
Bussell and Markell have drafted the application for a request of $5000 for the Bellevue School art
project. The Schools Foundation has committed $2000 toward the project as part of the artist in
schools program. The deadline for the application is today at 4:00. Bussell will finalize the
application.
The funds will be used for artist payment ($4000) and materials ($3000).
In addition, SOU has expressed support for the project.
Other
Seltzer gave a brief update on repairs for Nourishing our Community. Due to problems with the
purchased basalt a new piece needs to be purchased and delivered. Cost $500.
