MINUTES
July 8, 2010
CALL TO ORDER – Chairperson Bobby Townsend called the Ashland Tree Commission meeting to order at 6:00
p.m. on July 8, 2010, in the Siskiyou Room in the Community Development and Engineering Services Building
located at 51 Winburn Way, Ashland, OR.

June 3, 2010 Tree Commission Minutes – Neff / Townsend m/s to approve the minutes of June 3, 2010. Voice
vote: all AYES, Motion passed. The minutes were approved as submitted.

PLANNING ACTION: 2010-00691
SUBJECT PROPERTY: 230 W. Hersey St
APPLICANT: Wayne Eder
DESCRIPTION: A request for a Tree Removal Permit for 2 Cottonwood trees located behind 230 Hersey St.,
along the railroad right-of-way.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN DESIGNATION: High-Density Multi-Family Residential; ZONING: R-3;

Recommendation:
The applicant shall mitigate the removed trees by either planting two new trees off-site at a different property under
the same ownership, or by paying towards the Tree Fund in accordance with the requirements for payment in lieu
of planting.

SUBJECT PROPERTY: 1375 Iowa Street
APPLICANT: John Kearns
DESCRIPTION: A request for a Tree Removal Permit to remove five (5) poplar trees from a vacant flag lot.
Three of the trees, are pushing into the fence and appear to be hazardous, one of the three has burned and is
damaged from that burning.

PLANNING ACTIONS: 2010-00582
SUBJECT PROPERTY: 1405 Tolman Creek Road
APPLICANT: Malibar Group, LLC
DESCRIPTION: A request for a Boundary Line Adjustment and a Variance to allow a lot wider than it is deep for
the vacant property located at 1405 Tolman Creek Road.

That the applicant shall mitigate the removal of the maple tree with a ‘street tree’ along the lane at the time of the
subdivision approval process.
ACTION ITEMS
Tree of the Year Nominations: Amy will be compiling a list of the nominated trees for 2010 Tree of the Year

contest and will be sending out the nominations early in the week of the August 2 so that the commissioner’s may
rd
go out and look at the trees to see which could on the ballot. The final day to submit nominations is August 3.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
North Mountain Park Nature Walk class proposals: Amy was going to check with North Mountain Park to see if we
th
had missed the June 30 deadline for applying to have a ‘class’ and let Casey know. Casey would be interested in
leading a pruning clinic something similar.
