HomeMy WebLinkAboutTEST PAC From:Cassie Preskenis To:Veronica Allen Subject:Re: PAAC Packet & Agenda Date:Wednesday, May 07, 2025 8:14:02 AM \[EXTERNAL SENDER\] Hi Veronica, Here is the info from Dee to be included in the packet about the Guanajuato Hearts. She is planning to be there to present it to PAAC. Can we put that early on in the agenda please? Also, for Playwright’s Walk Update, can you please add June 22 planning subcommittee formation? Thank you SO much! The large metal hearts found in Guanajuato, Mexico are part of a larger effort to collect and recycle various types of waste, including plastic bottle caps, for charitable purposes, primarily to help children with cancer. The hearts are collection containers that are set up in public places like malls and plazas to encourage waste separation and recycling that is turned in as a fundraising effort. Artist Gilberto Negocio has the hearts fabricated and delivered to his house where he donates his talents in art form. These have been distributed all over Guanajuato. Hearts would cost $600 for two plus shipping and installation! Also - flying up and housing the artist for the reveal would be incredible. The fabricator has offered to donate their hearts and the artist is donating time. It’s just a materials fee for Gilberto. He can get both done in 4-5 weeks and we could have ready for reveal during the Guanajuato week celebration of 55 years of Sister City in July! I apologize for being so late to responding. My only edits are: Please add a We Are Here mural update. For discussion per Emily recommendation: Labor Acknowledgment We also pause to recognize and acknowledge the labor upon which our country, state, and institutions are built. We remember that our country is built on the labor of enslaved people who were kidnapped and brought to the U.S. from the African continent and recognize the continued contribution of their survivors. We also acknowledge all immigrant labor, including voluntary, involuntary, trafficked, forced, and undocumented peoples who contributed to the building of the country and continue to serve within our labor force. We acknowledge all unpaid care- giving labor. To the people who contributed this immeasurable work and their descendants, we acknowledge their indelible mark on the space in which we gather today. It is our collective responsibility to critically examine these histories, to repair harm, and to honor, protect, and sustain their contribution to our society. I don't have a presentation to add for the proposed hearts. I know you want those by May 1. If I can get it by next Wednesday would it be too late to get it in the packet? Thank you again! Do you have anything for the packet for the PAAC Timeline Planning or M.A.P discussion items? You had said maybe you might draft up a summary of our timeline planning meeting and I was unsure if you had anything for MAP. Also, as a heads up, if you haven’t been told already, it sounds like the traffic signal box (TSB) subcommittee is wanting to present candidates for the selection panel to be voted on at this meeting, if they are able to gather that information ahead of time. They will also be discussing their timeline for the project (I hope).
