August 25, 2004- 7:00 p.m. Community Development Building 51 Winburn Way Ashland CALL TO ORDER Chairperson, Alex Amarotico, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Development Building. ROLL CALL Attendees: Russ Chapman, Ross Finney,Jim Hartman,Joanne Krippaehne, and Bruce Moats. Lisa Black was also present. Charles Bennett, Carol Carlson, and Paige Prewett were absent. City Council Liaison: Alex Amarotico Staff Liaison: Dick Wanderscheid Student Liaison: Heidi Hubert not present APPROVAL OF MINUTES The chairperson, Alex Amarotico asked for an approval of the July 28, 2004 minutes. https://old.ashland.or.us/Agendas.asp?AMID=1852&Display=Minutes 1/5 8/26/25,9:42 AM Regular Monthly Meeting-Conservation and Climate Outreach Committee-City of Ashland,Oregon Commissioner Krippaehne moved to approve the minutes with stated corrections and Commissioner Moats seconded the motion. Voice vote:all Ayes. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. The minutes of the Conservation Commission Meeting of July28, 2004 were approved. HISTORIC/CONSERVATION DISCUSSIONS Commissioner Krippaehne gave a brief overview of her hopes for the two Commissions to work together towards cost effective energy upgrades. Commission members discussed examples of areas where improvements could be made. Commissioner Finney suggested a joint effort in putting on a tour of historic homes that have successfully made cost effective energy upgrades when remodeling. Mr. Wanderscheid suggested utilizing both a presentation and tour. Commissioner Krippaehne mentioned areas that seem to be of most concern. Mr. Wanderscheid offered support from the City of Ashland's Conservation Department to help sponsor this project. Historic Commission members explained about brown bag lunches, co-hosted with the City of Jacksonville, concerning the preservation oh homes. Both Commissions agreed to create a sub-committee to begin a joint project. Mr. Wanderscheid volunteered to get information from the Bonneville Historic Preservation Program and see if there are any trainers available. PUBLIC FORUM No speakers present. ASH LAND SANITARY& RECYCLING UPDATE: Ashland Sanitary& Recycling presented their policy for residential disposal of fluorescent light tubes & compact fluorescent bulbs. Mr. Wanderscheid presented a price list of items the City can dispose of through the State program. Ms. Black reported the Chipper Day at the Transfer Station would be October 9 and the Green Leaf Recycling at the Recycling Center would be November 9th and 23th. Ms. Black spoke about the reduced attendance with the compost recycling classes taught by Claudia Law and remarked they would mention the last class in the Sneak Preview along with their ad. Mr. Wanderscheid pointed out that direct mail to households had more effective responses with the Power Shift Program, than articles in the Daily Tidings, advertisement in the Daily Tidings, and notice in the City Source. OLD BUSINESS Mr. Wanderscheid presented prior an update on the State recycling. New Business There was no new business presented. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS 1. Green Business There was no report. 2. Education/Events Mr. Wanderscheid reported that Mr. Giardina was working on the solar tour. Commission Items not on the Agenda Commissioner Hartman presented a report on utility conservation in the High School. ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm.
