Southern Oregon University Quarterly Update
• Estimated waste diversion rate of 54.1%for Fiscal Year 2014. Figure includes:
o Commingle recycling
o Cardboard recycling
o Glass recycling
o Metal recycling
o Landscape waste composting
o Pre-consumer Food Composting
o Items diverted for reuse (Free Stuff Shelf or Goodwill)
o Hard and Soft Plastic recycling
• Reduced total energy use by 10% (in FY 2014) compared to FY 2005
• SOU awarded Tree Campus USA
• Working to become recognized as the first Bee Campus USA
• Officially adopted a Climate Action Fund, supplied by a u niversity-im posed fee on air travel.The
General Fund will set aside a fund equivalent to 1%of all air travel expenditures to support
carbon reduction initiatives on campus.
• Bike Program will begin renting bikes Spring Term
• Science Building to open Fall 2015—renovated to LEED Silver, possibly Gold
• McNeal Pavilion and Student Recreation Center to begin construction this summer, pursuing
LEED Gold Certification
• Theater Building renovation to begin Fall/Winter 2015, LEED Silver minimum
• Upcoming events:
